Managing Director – IoT

Location: London (with regular travel to Leeds, can also be Leeds based)
Salary: £120,000 - £130,000 + Bonus

We're looking for a Managing Director to lead an integrated buildings business unit, part of a wider group. This is a genuine build-and-scale leadership role at the intersection of technology, the built environment, and commercial growth owning the P&L, the strategy, and the team that will take the business through its next phase.

You'll bring either deep built-environment expertise with the ability to commercialise technology, or a proven track record as a venture/scaling CEO with the appetite to learn the sector fast. Either way, you'll need to earn the trust of engineers, clients and partners quickly, and translate that credibility into a real product and commercial roadmap.

What You'll Do

Technical & Sector Leadership

  • Build genuine understanding of building systems, technology platforms and service delivery in the integrated buildings space, and use it to shape platform product strategy.

Entrepreneurial Leadership

  • Operate as a true entrepreneur — spot opportunities, take ownership, and build from the ground up.
  • Run the business unit with a builder's mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, biased to action, and personally accountable for the P&L.
  • Define the 3–5 year strategy, including market positioning, product roadmap, partnership strategy, and the unit's role within the wider group.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

  • A track record of hiring A-players, managing teams, and owning a P&L against budget
  • Experience scaling a business meaningfully (from £x to £y) and introducing operating cadence, KPIs and management information
  • Commercial acumen — experience packaging solutions for market, and sound thinking on product-market fit and commercialisation models (e.g. freemium, paywall, value-based pricing)
  • The ability to prioritise ruthlessly in a high-opportunity environment
  • A low-ego, collaborative approach — this business unit sits within a wider group, where a significant share of value creation sits in group-level revenue as well as within the unit itself
  • Comfort working with strong, challenging founders

How Success Will Be Measured

  • Revenue and EBITDA vs. budget and prior year
  • New propositions/revenue streams launched
  • Organic revenue growth, pipeline coverage, win rate, and net revenue retention
