Managing Director

Bathgate Silica Sand Ltd, Cheshire

Lead a Business with a Proud History and an Exciting Future

Bathgate Silica Sand is one of the UK's leading independent silica sand producers, supplying high-quality products to customers across a range of industrial markets. As part of the family-owned Bathgate Walker Group, we combine long-term thinking, strong values and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Following the planned transition of our current Managing Director after more than 45 years with the business, we are seeking an exceptional leader to take Bathgate Silica Sand into its next chapter.

This is not simply a role for someone who can run an operation. We are looking for an individual who can lead a business, develop people, build strong relationships and help shape the long-term future of one of the Group's largest companies.

About the Role

As Managing Director, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, performance and continued development of Bathgate Silica Sand. Working closely with the Group COO and senior leadership team, you will ensure the business continues to operate safely, efficiently and profitably whilst maintaining the high standards of quality, reliability and customer service on which Bathgate has built its reputation.

In addition to leading day-to-day business performance, you will help shape the long-term future of Bathgate Silica Sand through oversight of major investment programmes, sustainability initiatives, mineral reserve planning, land development opportunities and strategic planning activity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
