sMRT is a well-established UK manufacturing business based in Hull, specialising in the design, engineering and manufacture of high-quality electronic safety and signalling products for demanding global markets. As part of the Wescom Group, sMRT combines the agility of a specialist manufacturer with the strength, investment and long-term vision of an international organisation.
We are seeking an ambitious and commercially astute Managing Director
To provide strategic and operational leadership across the business, with full accountability for P&L performance, sustainable growth and the continued development of a high-performing leadership team.
The Opportunity
Reporting into the Wescom Group Operations Director, the Managing Director will lead sMRT both strategically and tactically, with a clear focus on business growth, operational excellence, engineering capability and organisational development.
Key areas of responsibility will include:
- Full accountability for the financial and operational performance of the business.
- Developing and executing the business strategy to deliver sustainable growth.
- Leading engineering, manufacturing and technical functions.
- Driving Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence.
- Developing high-performing teams and strengthening organisational capability.
- Building strong customer, supplier and strategic partner relationships.
- Ensuring the highest standards of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental performance.
- Identifying opportunities for growth through new technologies, product development and manufacturing investment.

About You
We are looking for an experienced senior leader with a strong background in engineering and manufacturing, ideally with experience operating at Managing Director, General Manager, Business Unit Director or equivalent level.
You will ideally bring:
- 10+ years' senior leadership or director-level experience within engineering or manufacturing.
- Proven full P&L responsibility and strong commercial acumen.
- A track record of improving operational performance and delivering sustainable growth.
- Experience leading engineering, manufacturing and technical teams.
- Strong business transformation and Continuous Improvement experience.
- A proven ability to create engaged, high-performing cultures.
- Excellent strategic planning, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience within electronics manufacturing, marine, defence, aerospace or another highly regulated engineering environment would be advantageous.

Package
- Salary: £100,000-£110,000 depending on experience
