Your role in the team
Core Engineering & Platforms (CEP) group is seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Software Engineering Manager for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to lead the development, adoption, and operationalization of enterprise-scale infrastructure automation capabilities. This role is responsible for leading a high-performing engineering team while driving the strategy, roadmap, and execution of software-defined infrastructure solutions that enable infrastructure to be provisioned, managed, and operated through code.
The ideal candidate has successfully led large-scale engineering organizations, launched enterprise Infrastructure as Code initiatives, and delivered measurable business outcomes through automation, platform engineering, and AI transformation. This leader will establish engineering excellence standards, create reusable infrastructure platforms, drive AI-assisted engineering practices, and foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
As both a people leader and technical practitioner, the candidate will coach and mentor engineers, provide strategic direction, remove delivery barriers, and ensure successful execution of key initiatives. In addition, it also requires collaborating closely with servers, security, networking, platform, and application engineering teams to build scalable, secure, resilient, and self-service infrastructure capabilities that accelerate business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers responsible for Infrastructure as Code platforms, automation frameworks, and self-service infrastructure capabilities.
- Drive the enterprise Infrastructure as Code strategy, standards, governance model, and adoption roadmap across engineering organizations.
- Establish engineering excellence practices including code quality, testing, CI/CD, GitOps, security, compliance, architecture reviews, and automation standards.
- Design, build, and productize reusable infrastructure modules, templates, blueprints, APIs, and shared platform services.
- Develop and scale automation solutions using technologies such as Ansible, Terraform/OpenTofu, Env0, Puppet, Rundeck, Python, and related infrastructure automation platforms.
- Champion AI-assisted engineering, Specification-Driven Design, Copilot technologies, AI agents, and intelligent automation to improve engineering productivity and delivery quality.
- Partner with cloud, networking, security, identity, storage, and platform teams to modernize infrastructure delivery through automation and self-service experiences.
- Drive CI/CD pipeline implementation, deployment automation, policy-as-code, security-as-code, and compliance automation capabilities.
- Establish measurable engineering objectives, KPIs, and operational metrics while ensuring teams consistently deliver business outcomes and expected results.
- Influence engineering organizations to adopt enterprise standards, reusable patterns, and platform-first approaches.
- Create training programs, technical documentation, reference architectures, and enablement materials that accelerate IaC adoption and engineering maturity.
- Balance strategic planning with hands-on technical leadership while removing obstacles, managing priorities, and ensuring successful execution of critical initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
