Managing Quantity Surveyor – Building

Location: Southampton

We are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function on major building projects across the South West. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for driving commercial performance, managing risk, and ensuring successful financial delivery across large-scale or multiple complex projects.

You will lead a commercial team, providing direction, mentoring, and oversight while working closely with operational and leadership teams to maximise value and protect margin. This role offers significant autonomy and influence across project and business unit performance.

As our Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will:

  • Lead the commercial management of major projects or a portfolio of schemes, ensuring financial success
  • Oversee cost planning, forecasting, valuations, variations, and final account negotiations
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the commercial team, supporting development and performance
  • Drive procurement strategy and subcontractor management to achieve best value and risk mitigation
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to influence commercial strategy and project outcomes

About You

You will be an established commercial leader with strong experience delivering complex construction projects within a Tier 1 or major contractor environment.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience in quantity surveying and commercial management on major projects
  • Strong leadership experience, including managing and developing commercial teams
  • In-depth knowledge of standard forms of contract and construction commercial processes
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, with a proven track record of protecting margin
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment

Professional membership (e.g. RICS) is highly desirable.
