Managing Quantity Surveyor - Surrey
Linum Consult is supporting an established specialist contractor with the appointment of an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join its growing UK operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong QS who enjoys working on technically demanding construction projects rather than conventional volume building.
Our client specialises in the delivery of complex healthcare environments, including hospital refurbishments, diagnostic and imaging facilities, clinical spaces, and specialist medical fit-outs. Projects are frequently undertaken within live operational environments, requiring careful commercial management, close collaboration with project teams, and a strong understanding of specialist subcontract packages.
The Role
Working closely with the operational and commercial teams, you will take commercial responsibility for projects from procurement through to final account.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Commercial management of specialist construction and refurbishment projects
- Subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and management
- Preparation and management of valuations, variations, and change
- Cost forecasting, reporting, and project financial control
- Identification and management of commercial and contractual risk
- Managing applications for payment and final accounts
- Working closely with Project Managers, clients, consultants, and specialist subcontractors
- Supporting projects from pre-construction through delivery and close-out

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Previous healthcare experience would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in commercially strong QSs from high-specification, technically complex refurbishment or fit-out environments.
Why Consider It?
This isn't a volume construction role.
You'll be joining a specialist business delivering technically challenging projects where the Senior QS has genuine commercial influence and works closely with senior management.
