Managing Quantity Surveyor

📍 Scotland
💰 £750 per day PAYE
🕒 45 Hours per Week

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a major Overhead Lines and Electrical Transmission project. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC contract experience and a background in utilities, power, transmission, or infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximising project profitability, mitigating commercial risk, and supporting successful project delivery across a high-profile energy programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial activities across the project lifecycle.
  • Support the preparation of commercial reports, claims, forecasts, and associated documentation.
  • Monitor and manage project risks, maintaining risk registers and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts, including valuations, variations, quotations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Identify and manage compensation events, delays, change control, and contractual variations.
  • Carry out cost/value reconciliation (CVR) and support financial reporting and forecasting activities.
  • Ensure accurate commercial records are maintained throughout the project.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams, project managers, and senior stakeholders.
  • Attend project and commercial meetings as required.
  • Drive commercial best practice and process improvements across the project.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying.
  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or Managing Quantity Surveyor.
  • Strong understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and supplier accounts.
  • Demonstrable experience dealing with variations, valuations, claims, and compensation events.
  • Strong commercial awareness and contract costing experience.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within Electrical Transmission, Overhead Lines (OHL), Utilities, Energy, or Power Infrastructure projects.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure or network projects.
