Managing Quantity Surveyor

Location: Esher, Surrey or Kentish Town, London

Salary: £70,000 to £80,000 + £4,500 Car Allowance + Benefits

I'm recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join an established infrastructure contractor delivering a high-volume programme of water and mains installation works for Thames Water across London.

This is a busy framework, with around £1.5m of work going through the contract each month. Individual jobs typically range from £2,500 to £50,000, so the role is very different from a traditional major-project QS position. There is a strong focus on managing a large number of live jobs, keeping subcontract accounts under control and maintaining accurate commercial reporting across the framework.

The successful candidate will manage a team of Quantity Surveyors and will have a hands-on role in managing the commercial performance of the contract.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day commercial management of the framework, working closely with the operational team and Thames Water to ensure work is priced, delivered and managed effectively.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors.
  • Overseeing the commercial management of a high volume of live works.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts and final accounts.
  • Reviewing and challenging costs, valuations and applications for payment.
  • Producing accurate monthly CVRs and commercial reports.
  • Forecasting turnover, margin and cash flow.
  • Managing risk, change and commercial opportunities.
  • Identifying ways to improve margins and commercial performance.
  • Building effective relationships with Thames Water and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensuring the terms of the Thames Water contract are understood and properly administered.
  • Supporting the team with commercial and contractual issues.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
