Job Title: Managing Quantity Surveyor

About The Role

The Managing Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing the commercial team, including Quantity Surveyors at all levels. You'll oversee commercial delivery of an assigned portfolio of projects from award through to completion, maximising commercial performance and providing commercial and contractual guidance as required. You'll also collate and present monthly commercial reports to the Commercial Manager, helping ensure the company's objectives, aims and targets are achieved.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Identifying and implementing a strategic approach across your assigned portfolio
  • Managing the commercial team to ensure contractual requirements with clients and sub-contractors are met within required timescales
  • Identifying and managing commercial opportunities and risks at delivery stage
  • Ensuring monthly contract review and project close down reports are compiled accurately and on time
  • Ensuring cost to complete reviews are undertaken and updated at least twice monthly on all contracts
  • Supporting project teams to achieve the optimum financial outcome, maximising value and minimising cost while maintaining appropriate controls
  • Managing contractual and commercial issues as they arise, referring to the Commercial Director where needed
  • Managing people issues within your team, including appraisals, training plans, disciplinary, grievance and absence reviews

About you:

We're looking for an experienced commercial leader from the civil engineering contracting industry with extensive commercial and contractual awareness and a proven track record of success. You'll have experience managing a commercial team and mentoring or developing team members, along with strong organisational and people management skills.

You'll bring extensive knowledge of commonly used construction contracts (NEC3, NEC4, JCT, ICC) and methods of measurement (MMHW, CESMM), a good working knowledge of highway works, drainage, bridgeworks and general civil engineering works, and confidence identifying and assessing contract risks and opportunities.

Education

  • CSCS Card holder
  • Valid UK Driver's Licence
  • Right to work in the UK
  • HND, HNC or Degree in a construction discipline (desirable)
  • Membership of a recognised professional body related to Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering (desirable)
