About the Role
This is a varied, hands-on role covering both 1st and 2nd line support. You’ll take ownership of day-to-day technical issues, work directly with users across the business and handle more complex incidents alongside the wider infrastructure team. My client is a well-established international financial institution in London and is looking for an experienced Mandarin Speaking IT Support Engineer for their IT department. It’s a great opportunity to broaden your technical exposure within a professional financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1st and 2nd line support for desktop, laptop, hardware, software, network connectivity and telephone-related issues, ensuring problems are resolved promptly to minimise disruption to users.
- Managing the service desk mailbox, hotline and ticketing system, recording and prioritising incidents and service requests, and escalating more complex issues to the infrastructure, security or application teams.
- Administering Active Directory and business system user accounts, including account creation, password resets, access provisioning and resolving locked or disabled accounts.
- Managing the IT onboarding process for new employees, including preparing and configuring equipment, setting up user accounts and arranging access to the required systems and applications.
- Supporting Microsoft desktop and server environments, including Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Exchange, Active Directory, WSUS, RDS and DFS.
- Assisting with virtualised environments using VMware, vSphere and Hyper-V, as well as supporting backup technologies such as Veeam, Backup Exec and LTO tape systems.
- Troubleshooting server hardware, network connectivity and infrastructure issues, with exposure to firewalls, routers and HP, Cisco or Juniper switches.
- Providing technical support for internal meetings, video conferences and online meetings with international offices, ensuring equipment and connections are tested and working correctly.
- Maintaining accurate records of IT assets and inventory, including equipment allocation, storage, delivery, returns and updates to the relevant asset and configuration management systems.
- Monitoring IT systems, infrastructure and security events through internal monitoring platforms, recording incidents and escalating any risks or service interruptions promptly.
- Coordinating backup tape rotation and collection with external service providers, ensuring that schedules and records are properly maintained.
- Supporting IT purchasing and invoice administration, including checking invoice details, maintaining payment records and assisting with the year-end IT asset stocktake.
- Handling day-to-day office technology issues, including printer maintenance, toner replacement, paper jams and other general equipment support.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
