Job Description: Manual Turning Lathe Operator

Reporting to: Machine Shop Manager

The Company

Instrument Technology Ltd (ITL Vacuum) is a UK based business, manufacturing, sourcing, and supplying ranges of Standard and Non-Standard Vacuum components, fittings, and vessels within a range of industries utilizing vacuum techniques. This includes Semi-Conductor, Research, Energy, Medical, and general Industrial vacuum users.

Scope

We are seeking a skilled Manual Turning Lathe Operator to manufacture precision components used in high-performance vacuum systems. The role involves machining parts such as vacuum flanges, chambers, tubes, connectors, adaptors, and sealing components where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are essential for maintaining vacuum integrity. Experience working to tight tolerances is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes for small to medium-sized components
  • Turn, face, bore, drill, tap, and thread components. CF, ISO, and KF products
  • Experience working with various materials (mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, etc.)
  • Work to production schedules and quality targets
  • Work to engineering drawings with tight tolerances
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges, and surface finish testers
  • Maintain cleanliness standards required for vacuum assembly
  • Ensure all Health & Safety standards are met and exceeded

The Person

  • Strong understanding of tolerances and surface finish requirements
  • Ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings
  • Ability to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy
  • The ability to work in a logical, systematic manner
  • Ability to calculate speeds and feeds manually
  • Problem-solving ability
  • High attention to detail

Working Hours

  • Mon - Thurs: 7.00am to 4.00pm
  • Fri: 7.00am to 3.00pm

Full time, Permanent

Hastings, Sussex

Salary – Dependant on experience
