Manufacturing Engineering CMM Programmer

The Manufacturing Engineering CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, validating and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programmes to support the manufacture of high-precision aerospace and defence components. The role ensures dimensional verification is accurate, efficient and compliant with customer, regulatory and internal quality requirements.

Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Design Engineering and Production, the CMM Programmer will optimise inspection strategies, reduce inspection cycle times and support the industrialisation of new products while maintaining the highest levels of quality and process capability.

A key requirement of this role is extensive experience programming LK Metrology CMMs and a thorough understanding of precision metrology within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate and optimise CMM inspection programmes for LK Metrology CMMs using the appropriate programming software.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T requirements in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and/or ISO GPS standards.
  • Produce robust inspection routines that ensure repeatability, reproducibility and efficient measurement of precision components.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by developing inspection strategies during product industrialisation.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers to ensure inspection capability is incorporated into manufacturing processes from the earliest design stages.
  • Reduce inspection cycle times through continuous improvement while maintaining measurement integrity.
  • Investigate dimensional non-conformances and support root cause analysis using structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Validate first-off components and support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 where applicable.
  • Create and maintain inspection documentation, reports and work instructions.
  • Ensure CMM programmes are configuration controlled and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • Provide technical support to Quality Engineers, Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
  • Assist with Gauge R&R studies, MSA activities and capability studies.
  • Support calibration activities and ensure measurement equipment remains compliant with applicable standards.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and digitalisation of inspection processes.
  • Ensure all activities comply with company Quality Management Systems, EN9100 requirements and defence industry standards.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to inspectors and junior engineers where required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
