I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is technical, analytical and commercially pragmatic, with the confidence to challenge processes and get to the bottom of problems. You will ideally have:
- Experience in inventory, cost accounting or plant finance within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of BOMs, production costs, stock movements, yields and manufacturing variances.
- Experience working with an ERP system - Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience would be highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel and strong data/reporting skills.
- A qualification or part-qualification in accountancy, or significant relevant manufacturing finance experience.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in how things work on the shop floor.
This is not an FMCG environment - we are particularly interested in candidates from chemicals, engineering, automotive, aerospace, specialist materials or other complex manufacturing sectors.
