Role Overview
This is a 3-month fixed-term contract role to support the engineering design function in moving a prototype into production. The role will be hands-on and will require the successful applicant to liaise between the Engineering R&D project team and Production teams.
The Ideal Candidate
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Hands-on approach to problem solving, testing, and fault finding.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision.
- Confident use of test and measurement tools.
- Basic workshop skills and practical mechanical assembly capability.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, assembly drawings, and wiring schematics.
- Experience using CAD, preferably SolidWorks, for the design of fixtures, jigs, and production support tooling.
- Ability to liaise effectively with internal teams and external suppliers on technical, quality, and test-related matters.
Key Accountabilities
- Mechanical Design and Prototype Integration: Support the mechanical integration of prototype systems as they move into production, ensuring design intent is maintained through the transition, updating design documentation as required.
- Testing and Reporting: Develop and support test plans for prototype systems, including internal vibration and IP testing. Produce clear reports, summarise results, and advise on findings and recommended next steps.
- Design for Manufacture: Work with Mechanical Designers and the Production Engineering team to resolve build and assembly issues. Design jigs, fixtures, and other production support tooling to improve assembly efficiency and consistency.

Desirables
- Experience working within aerospace, defence, communications, RF, satellite, electronics or other high-technology industries.
- Knowledge of prototype integration, environmental qualification and product verification activities.
- Experience supporting projects through design release into manufacture and assembly.
- Familiarity with engineering change management and configuration control processes.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) principles.
- Experience working with external suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Awareness of quality management and engineering documentation standards.
Location
Hybrid working is available for this role - Before applying, please make sure you can commute to Coldwell Radio Station, Madley, Herefordshire, HR2 9NE on an adhoc basis.
