It's possible with a role at Linx Printing Technologies (www.linxglobal.com).
Linx, a Veralto company, is a leading global provider of coding and marking solutions for date and batch coding of products and packaging across manufacturing industries. As part of the Linx team and the broader Veralto network, you'll work with products that make an everyday impact on the food, medicine, and essentials we all rely on — and along the way, you'll have the chance to make your mark and own your ambition with valuable career growth opportunities.
At Linx, we know that innovation and ingenuity starts with prioritizing a diverse workforce and a deeply inclusive workplace. We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply to our positions.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for owning the stability, capability and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment, leading technical problem solving on the shop floor, and supporting new product introduction and change control — all while gaining exposure across our full manufacturing operation. This role is based on site in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
- Rotating across our printer cell, print head cell and fluids plant to build broad, hands-on knowledge of the full Linx manufacturing business.
- Responding in real time to production issues — prioritizing keeping the lines running, then digging into root cause and countermeasures.
- Owning and maintaining process documentation, including work instructions, control plans, PFMEA and standard work.
- Identifying and implementing tangible improvements to cycle time, throughput, ergonomics and cost — not just spotting opportunities, but seeing them through to completion.
- Carrying out equipment maintenance and upkeep using TPM techniques, and providing manufacturing input into NPD/NPI and engineering change control.
- Building credibility and buy-in with operators and production teams to bring your improvement ideas to life on the shop floor.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
