Job Summary
We are looking for an electronics-focused Manufacturing Engineering professional to support Production, repair and continuous improvement activities within a laser manufacturing environment.
The role will focus on troubleshooting and repairing returned laser systems and associated power supplies. These products can vary significantly in configuration, so the successful candidate will need strong practical fault-finding skills, a methodical approach, and the ability to adapt to unforeseen challenges and update repair processes for Production to follow.
Training will be provided in laser systems, optical alignment and product-specific processes. The role will also support wider Manufacturing Engineering activity, helping to build electronics capability within our Production team.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair faults on laser systems, power supplies and electronic assemblies.
- Support Production with electronics-related troubleshooting and complex technical issues.
- Use test equipment, schematics, procedures and practical investigation to identify root causes.
- Recommission repaired systems, including functional test, basic optical checks and alignment activities once trained.
- Document repair findings, product variations, failure modes and lessons learned.
- Update Manufacturing Execution Systems and production documentation to reflect improved process knowledge.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, R&D and Service to transfer repair knowledge into robust production processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve repair cycle time, touch time, tooling, test methods and process flow.
- Support structured problem solving and corrective actions for recurring repair issues.
- Help develop electronics fault-finding capability within Production and Manufacturing Engineering.
Education & Experience
- College, apprenticeship, HNC/HND, degree or equivalent practical experience in electronics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Industrial experience in electronics test, repair, service, production support, manufacturing engineering or a similar hands-on technical role.
- Strong practical experience in electronics fault-finding, test and repair.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies and other electronic test equipment.
- Experience working with power supplies, PCBs, cabling, sensors, control electronics or similar electronic assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures and technical documentation.
- Experience working in a production, repair, service, test or engineering environment.

Preferred Additional Skills
- Laser knowledge
- Good communication skills
- Experience with lasers, optics, photonics or other high-technology manufacturing environments.
- Experience with power supply repair, high-voltage systems or precision electronic control systems.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, root cause analysis or structured problem-solving methods.
- Experience creating work instructions, test procedures, troubleshooting guides or technical training material.
- Experience using Manufacturing Execution Systems, ERP systems or production documentation systems.
- Previous experience supporting knowledge transfer from Engineering/R&D into Production.
Skills & Other Requirements
- Hands-on, practical and technically curious.
- Methodical approach to fault-finding and problem solving.
- Comfortable working with product variation, legacy products and incomplete information.
- Able to document technical findings clearly and convert learning into usable production instructions.
- Good communication skills and confidence working with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, R&D and Service teams.
- Willingness to learn laser systems, optical alignment and product-specific processes.
- Quality-focused, safety-conscious and able to work within defined manufacturing and compliance procedures.
- Interested in developing from an electronics-focused role into broader Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities.

Working Conditions
Working conditions typical of a climate controlled and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.
