Reports to: Capex & Process Engineering Manager
Role Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the introduction, optimisation, and ongoing manufacture of products within the Capex product portfolio. The role is responsible for ensuring manufacturing processes are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and capable of meeting customer quality and delivery expectations. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Management teams, the Manufacturing Engineer will lead continuous improvement initiatives, support new product introductions (NPI), and drive manufacturing excellence across the Capex portfolio.

What Our New ‘Manufacturing Engineer’ Will Be Doing
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of Capex projects, ensuring adherence to the Capex Project Delivery Framework, including business case development, project planning, steering committees, URS/FDS documentation, and DIOPQ protocols.
- Develop comprehensive business cases for capital investment proposals, including ROI analysis, payback calculations, risk assessments, and benefit quantification aligned with group-level priorities.
- Manage CapEx project execution on time, within budget, and to required safety and quality standards, using Gantt charts, gateway reviews, and project governance tools to control progress.
- Specify, evaluate, implement, and integrate new automation technologies and manufacturing equipment, ensuring alignment with business goals, scalability, and operational requirements.
- Develop specification and testing protocols, validation procedures, and commissioning plans to guarantee that all equipment and systems meet industry certifications and are reliable and fit for purpose.
- Oversee contractors and suppliers during project implementation, ensuring compliance with safety, technical, and quality requirements throughout installation and commissioning phases.
- Conduct benefit reviews post-implementation to validate that projects deliver against original business case assumptions and quantified savings.
- Carry out time studies, develop standard work, and update ERP data to improve manufacturing accuracy, planning, and efficiency.
- Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in risk assessments and safe system of work development.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
The Experience Our New ‘Manufacturing Engineer’ Will Have Includes
- Candidates must be educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent, in an engineering discipline (Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering).
- In-depth experience within a manufacturing/industrial engineering role in a fast-paced manufacturing.
- Proven experience delivering Continuous Improvement/lean projects & managing Capex projects.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, and process optimisation.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent Continuous Improvement qualification.
- Formal Project Management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent).
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems to support production planning, inventory management, and operational reporting is desirable.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex capital investment projects, including major projects.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, from concept and design transfer through to full-scale production is desirable.
- Proficiency in CAD software and interpretation of engineering drawings and technical specifications is desirable.
- Experience within composite manufacturing, injection moulding, robotic welding, or other advanced manufacturing environments is desirable.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing automation, process validation, and equipment commissioning is desirable.
- Experience applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles to improve product manufacturability and operational efficiency is desirable.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent Continuous Improvement qualification is advantageous.
