The role

You'll start alongside a senior engineer, reviewing incoming RFQs, CAD and drawings and checking that materials, finishes, tolerances and quantities make sense. You'll prepare briefs for partner factories, check their quotes against them, and track orders through production, keeping customers updated as you go. You'll help with quality checks and rework, and get funded trips to see parts made in China.

You'll see more parts, processes and failure modes in a year here than most engineers see in five, and you'll take on your own repeat customers as you grow.

What you'll need

A degree in mechanical, manufacturing or product design engineering, or similar, with your first engineering role already under your belt.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What it isn't

This isn't a graduate scheme. There's no cohort of other graduates, no rotation and no chartership programme. It's a team of four, so you'll do chasing and admin as well as engineering, and you won't design the parts, you'll help get them made. It's around four days a week in the studio, more at the start. If you want structure handed to you, this won't suit. If you want responsibility early, it will.
