Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Haydock
Salary: From £45,000 depending on experience
Working pattern: Full-time, 08:00 – 16:30 Monday to Thursday, 08:00 – 13:00 Friday
Gentex Corporation is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Haydock.
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will help take products from design concept through to production, improving manufacturing efficiency and establishing effective process controls. Working with design, quality and production teams, you will support new product introduction (NPI), solve manufacturing problems and improve existing processes.
Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities
- Review product designs and provide feedback to Design Engineers to improve manufacturability and production efficiency.
- Support projects from prototype through to production, including coordinating pre-production builds and supporting NPI.
- Design production jigs and fixtures, and write work instructions and production aid documentation.
- Maintain cycle times, routings, work centres and configuration within SAP.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities and assess the costs and benefits of proposed process changes.
- Investigate and source innovative materials and manufacturing equipment.
- Identify and implement appropriate production process controls, working with quality and production teams to improve performance.
- Assess supplier capability and process controls, and share lessons learned across design, quality and production.

Skills and Experience for the Manufacturing Engineer
- A BTEC, HNC, HND or degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
- At least three years’ experience in a similar role within the engineering or manufacturing industry.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and bills of materials.
- Understanding of manufacturing equipment and machinery, and the ability to design jigs and fixtures.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing and other process control tools.
- Ability to calculate the financial implications of process implementation and improvement.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, IT systems, databases and software for data manipulation and analysis.
- Understanding of Minitab or equivalent statistical software.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- A full UK driving licence.

About You
The Manufacturing Engineer role will suit someone who takes a systematic, hands-on approach to investigating and solving hardware and process problems.
You will work effectively with colleagues across engineering, quality and production, with the ability to participate in or lead cross-functional teams. You will use initiative, make decisions within defined procedures and communicate clearly with people at all levels.
You will report to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Occasional travel between UK and US sites will be required to support manufacturing engineering activities.
