This fixed-term opportunity offers the chance to play a critical role in maintaining manufacturing continuity during a major business transformation project.
Role Summary
The Manufacturing Technician is a fixed-term, project-linked position created to support routine manufacturing operations within Bard's existing manufacturing suites during the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream.
The role exists to ensure uninterrupted production while permanent technicians are released to participate in training activities associated with the new ADHD bead manufacturing unit and expansion assets.
The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing processes within an assigned legacy production area, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently achieved. The role is focused exclusively on existing manufacturing operations and does not include training, qualification, authorization, or deployment on any new expansion assets.
This appointment is temporary and will conclude upon completion of the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream.
Role and Responsibilities
Manufacturing Operations
- Support Cell Leads in achieving production targets within designated legacy manufacturing areas.
- Work collaboratively within the production team to ensure operational continuity and effective shift coverage.
- Prepare equipment, materials, and resources for incoming shifts to ensure efficient start-up and continuity of operations.
- Ensure components, materials, and changeover requirements are available and prepared in advance.
- Maintain operational readiness and support efficient manufacturing performance throughout the shift.
Production Performance & KPI Delivery
- Support delivery of key manufacturing performance indicators, including:
- Changeover time targets
- Production run rates
- Downtime reduction
- Yield performance
- Asset utilization
- Monitor process performance and escalate issues appropriately.
- Contribute to operational improvements that enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Assist in performance reporting and operational data collection.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in root cause investigations and problem-solving activities to support operational excellence.
- Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives focused on waste reduction, yield enhancement, and process optimization.
- Lead or support small Kaizen projects within the manufacturing area.
- Actively participate in Autonomous Maintenance programs and workplace improvement activities.

Quality & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements and site procedures.
- Maintain accurate production documentation and records.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of quality systems, batch records, and manufacturing documentation.
- Raise Documentation Change Requests (DCRs) as required to support operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Support validation activities, including protocol execution and sampling requirements.
- Ensure all activities comply with internal quality standards and regulatory expectations.
Equipment & Asset Care
- Operate manufacturing equipment safely and effectively within approved procedures.
- Maintain machinery in a clean, safe, and operational condition.
- Support equipment cleaning, servicing, and basic maintenance activities.
- Work closely with Engineering teams to resolve equipment-related issues and atypical events.
- Assist with troubleshooting and corrective actions to minimize production disruption.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to resolve operational challenges.
- Communicate effectively across departments to ensure production objectives are achieved.
- Support Shift Managers and Coordinators through timely reporting of operational performance and downtime events.
- Contribute to a positive team environment that encourages collaboration and continuous improvement.
Workplace Management, Health & Safety
- Maintain high standards of workplace organization through effective 5S implementation.
- Take ownership of housekeeping, stock control, and workplace management processes.
- Ensure work areas remain compliant with GMP and Health & Safety requirements.
- Adhere to all site security, environmental, and safety procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Education
Minimum Required
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs (Grade C/Level 4 or above), including Mathematics and English, or equivalent qualifications.
Preferred
- A-Level qualifications or above, or equivalent vocational qualifications.
Experience
Minimum Required
- Experience working within a GMP-regulated environment.
- Experience cleaning, servicing, or operating production equipment.
Preferred
- Experience within the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
- Experience supporting process equipment maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of regulated manufacturing processes and production operations.
Knowledge and Skills
- Good understanding of GMP principles and pharmaceutical manufacturing practices.
- Knowledge of 5S, Workplace Management, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Autonomous Maintenance principles.
- Strong focus on quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Results-oriented with a proactive and accountable approach.
- Effective problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Good organizational and time-management capabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively across multiple organizational levels.
- Positive attitude with a commitment to learning, improvement, and change.
- Sound understanding of regulatory, quality, and business compliance requirements.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to hot and humid production suite conditions.
- Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
- Exposure to approved cleaning chemicals and pharmaceutical active ingredients.
- Frequent manual handling activities and repetitive movements.
- Regular stripping, cleaning, reassembly, and operation of manufacturing equipment.
- Shift-based working pattern as required by operational needs.
Fixed-Term Project Information
This position has been created solely to support continuity of routine manufacturing operations during the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream.
Responsibilities are limited to activities within assigned legacy manufacturing areas and supporting processes required to maintain production output during the transition period.
The role does not include training, qualification, authorization, deployment, or scheduling on the new ADHD bead manufacturing unit or any associated expansion asset.
Employment within this role will conclude upon completion of the Manufacturing Expansion Training Workstream in accordance with the terms of the fixed-term employment agreement.
