Position Summary:
Steinway & Sons is looking for a Custom Piano Technician to join the team at our manufacturing plant in Astoria, Queens! The Custom Piano Technician will assist in the assembly, repair, and finishing of custom pianos. They will report to and assist the head of R&D in completing special and custom pianos. The ideal candidate has strong technical and woodworking knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional craftsmanship and customer service.
Main Responsibilities:
- Handcrafts and finishes parts for individual pianos to meet design objectives using hand tools, woodworking machinery and finishing equipment as required.
- Fits and installs parts to close tolerances using gauges and patterns
- Collaborate with the greater Special Pianos team to ensure piano designs are achievable to the highest possible quality
- Collaborate with the manufacturing staff to ensure all custom pianos continue to progress according to the production schedule
- Assist in the coating of custom pianos as designed
- Recommend and/or analyze materials, equipment, and practices used in the project.
- Collaborates with the design group to change plans if problems arise.
- Collaborates with the operations department to identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong background in Cabinetry/Finish Carpentry
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and translate to parts and pianos.
- Must pass OSHA requirements for wearing a half mask organic vapor respirator.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
The estimated annualized base salary range for this role is $70,000-$80,000. Compensation will vary based on skills and experience. Position Summary:
Steinway is looking for experienced Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineers who has experience building musical instruments or woodworking, to lead the design, production, and refinement of our instruments. This hands-on role combines mechanical and manufacturing engineering expertise with deep knowledge of piano craftsmanship, finishing, acoustics, and process optimization (Lean/DFMA). The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and technicians, drive continuous improvement and innovation, and ensure every piano meets the highest standards of quality, performance, and acoustic excellence while advancing the legacy of our instruments. This role currently has two openings.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering and manufacturing initiatives across piano design, materials, assembly, finishing, and acoustic performance
- Test and analyze components, assemblies, and materials to ensure exceptional quality and sound
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshoot complex issues across production, quality, and engineering teams
- Apply Lean, DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly), and other process optimization principles to improve efficiency, quality, and manufacturability
- Maintain and manage detailed engineering documentation, parts models, construction orders, and PLM records
- Mentor engineers and technicians, fostering best practices, multi-disciplinary knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation, balancing respect for legacy systems with modern engineering approaches

Requirements
Qualifications, education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field required; advanced degrees a plus
- 5–10+ years of progressive engineering experience in precision manufacturing, musical instruments, or woodworking-intensive industries required.
- Proven expertise in piano engineering, piano technician work, and/or woodworking/finishing
- Hands-on problem-solving experience, including troubleshooting complex systems, materials, and processes
- Familiarity with CAD modeling tools (NX, SolidWorks, or similar) and PLM software
- Knowledge of piano acoustics or audio system performance highly desirable
- Strong project management and planning skills, with the ability to organize, prioritize, and deliver complex projects
- Strong ability to work independently, provide technical leadership, and mentor colleagues
- Demonstrated understanding of wood technology, finishing techniques, and piano component interactions
- Experience applying Lean principles, DFMA, or other process improvement methodologies

Position Summary:
Steinway & Sons is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager for our manufacturing plant in Astoria, Queens. This role is responsible for day-to-day supervision of union maintenance personnel, ensuring safe, reliable operation of production machinery and facility systems. This role is hands-on, highly visible on the production floor, and critical to maintaining uptime, safety, and regulatory compliance in a high-profile automated manufacturing environment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversee upkeep and maintenance needs of the office and factory space
- Supervise maintenance activities supporting automated production equipment, CNC machinery, robotics, dust collection, and finishing operations
- Act as first responder to equipment breakdowns; troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, PLC, and robotic issues
- Create and implement preventative maintenance schedules for machinery and equipment. Designate work assignments to internal maintenance and external contractors and ensure jobs are completed to high standards and that all equipment and tools are well maintained to meet production needs.
- Proactively seeks out waste of resources and initiates actions to improve methods and reduce costs.
- Assign daily work and emergency repairs based off facilities needs
- Ensures that health and safety policies are complied with, through thorough safety trainings for all employees and conducting site safety assessments to identify all safety hazards.
- Monitor equipment and parts inventory, working with vendors to manage orders, pricing, and services.
- Ensures involvement of the Maintenance Department to support ongoing capital projects.
- Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance.
- Deliver strong operational performance by ensuring compliance with regulatory agency standards and programs (local, city, and state). Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files related to facilities inspections and compliance reporting.
- Assists in the selection of new hires as well as on going coaching, development, and discipline of current union maintenance staff.

Requirements
- At least 5 years of industrial maintenance experience and at least 2 years of supervisory experience
- Able to analyze, plan and solve problems
- Able to read prints and drawings and have solid math and mechanical aptitude
- Familiar with CMMS systems, Robotics ( Fanuc / ABB ) and PLC’s ( Allen Bradley / Siemens )
- Able to communicate effectively with diverse groups
- Must have good working knowledge of OSHA regulations and practices
- Must have broad experience and familiarity with building systems (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic/pneumatic, fire safety)
- Must have or be able to acquire required certificates of fitness from FDNY to maintain the plant
- Must be able to maintain all permits to operate equipment and air permits with all government agencies (DEP, DEC, EPA)
The estimated annualized base salary range for this role is $80,000-$95,000. Compensation will vary based on skills and experience. This role also offers re-location assistance if applicable. Position Summary:
Steinway & Sons is currently looking for a Production Supervisor to oversee a team in our piano manufacturing Plant located in Astoria, Queens. The Production Supervisor will be responsible for scheduling and assigning work, inspecting department production, and coordinating interdepartmental activities to meet production targets and quality standards. They will monitor and prioritize the workflow of production to meet deadlines as well as provide direct feedback to the leadership team.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe work environment at all times

- Coordinate and supervise workflow within the department
