Role Overview
A leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a Manufacturing Layout Engineer to create, develop and maintain accurate factory layouts and CAD drawings. You will support manufacturing projects from early concept and feasibility through equipment installation and final as-built documentation, helping to optimise space, process flow and equipment integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, update and control 2D manufacturing facility layouts using AutoCAD.
- Develop concept, feasibility and detailed layouts for production lines, workstations, machinery, tooling, logistics areas and supporting facilities.
- Optimise layouts for process flow, operator movement, material flow, ergonomics, maintenance access, safety and space utilisation.
- Complete site surveys, validate existing drawings and translate physical measurements into accurate CAD layouts.
- Integrate supplier equipment drawings, identify clashes or space constraints and support installation or relocation activities.
- Maintain master factory layouts, drawing revisions and final as-built documentation.
- Work with engineering, production, logistics, facilities, maintenance, health and safety teams, and external suppliers.
- Provide layout information for project reviews, feasibility assessments and investment decisions.

What You’ll Bring
Essential requirements
- HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Automotive or Design Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong AutoCAD capability, particularly 2D drafting and manufacturing layout development.
- Experience creating and maintaining factory, engineering or manufacturing layouts.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment drawings and technical specifications.
- Good knowledge of CAD standards, dimensions, scales, layers, blocks and revision control.
- Experience conducting site surveys and producing accurate drawings from physical measurements.
- Understanding of manufacturing environments and production processes.
- High attention to detail, structured problem-solving skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
Desirable experience
- Automotive or comparable high-volume manufacturing experience.
- Factory, production-line or workstation layout development.
- New product introduction, equipment installation, relocation or facility modification projects.
- 3D CAD or factory visualisation tools.
- Lean manufacturing, material flow and continuous improvement principles.
Location & Working Pattern
Location: Norfolk, UK
Working pattern: On-site, full-time

Employment Details
- Employment type: Fixed-term contract
- Contract length: 6 months, with the possibility of extension to 12 months
- Hours: Full-time
- Eligibility: Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
