Manufacturing Manager
Food Manufacturing
County Durham
£70,000 - £72,000
There are Manufacturing Manager roles where the operation is already polished and your job is to keep it that way.
This isn’t one of them.
This is a large, fast-paced food manufacturing site entering a significant period of change.
Investment is coming, new talent is joining the business and expectations around performance, leadership and accountability are increasing.
The opportunity is to help shape what happens next.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Site Lead, you’ll take responsibility for a sizeable production operation, leading seven direct reports and a wider team across multiple manufacturing and packing lines.
You’ll own performance across safety, food quality, service, cost and efficiency. That means improving labour and material control, reducing waste, increasing machine performance and ensuring the production plan is delivered consistently.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
