Who you are
We are looking for an early-career Manufacturing NPI Engineer who can help turn Nusku’s product into a reliable, repeatable and cost-effective manufactured system with our contract manufacturing partner.
You will be based at our Bristol office, while also spending time with suppliers and in contract manufacturing environments. The role combines practical manufacturing problem-solving with the structured engineering work needed to support drawings, BOMs, cost models, non-conformance reviews, reports and improvement projects.
We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds, including degree, apprenticeship, HNC/HND, technician, quality, production engineering or equivalent practical experience routes.
What the job involves
As Manufacturing NPI Engineer, you will help move Nusku’s product from prototype and pilot builds into controlled, repeatable outsourced manufacture. Your responsibilities will include:
- Support NPI activity as products move from prototype and pilot builds into repeatable outsourced production.
- Work with design engineers and system owners to improve DFM/DFA, assembly, serviceability, tooling and cost.
- Assess suppliers and component options, considering capability, quality, cost, lead time and scalability.
- Help define the tooling, jigs, fixtures, work instructions, test requirements and process controls needed for reliable manufacture.
- Support trials, build reviews and continuous improvement projects that improve yield, reduce rework, increase efficiency and strengthen process stability.
- Investigate supplier, build and product non-conformances, supporting root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Use spreadsheets and structured data to create cost models, supplier comparisons, manufacturing trackers and clear reports.
- Work with suppliers and our contract manufacturing partner to resolve issues and support robust manufacturing control.

This is an office-based role at our Bristol site, working closely with design engineers, system owners, operations, suppliers and our contract manufacturing partner. Although you will spend time in practical manufacturing environments, the role works across design, supplier and outsourced manufacturing activity rather than an internal Nusku production line.
Occasional planned day visits will be required to suppliers and our contract manufacturing partner to support production readiness, technical sourcing decisions, trials, supplier issue resolution and improvement activity. Applicants must have access to their own transport.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with the right attitude, practical judgement and technical foundation to grow quickly in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
Must-haves:
- A degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or related field) or equivalent practical experience.
- Confidence working across office-based engineering detail, supplier engagement and practical manufacturing environments.: working effectively with design engineers, system owners, suppliers and manufacturing partners alike.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications or build documentation.
- Practical problem-solving skills that can be applied to root-cause investigations and continuous improvement projects.
- An interest in repeatable, scalable or higher-volume manufacture, where cost, quality, yield, rework and process control.
- The ability to work effectively with design engineers, system owners, suppliers and manufacturing partners alike.
- Strong IT and data handling analytical skills, including confidence using spreadsheets to assess manufacturing performance and bottle necks, cost models, trackers and supplier selection, as well as producing clear reports and presentations.
- Access to own transport for occasional planned day visits to suppliers and our contract manufacturing partner.
- Interest in sustainable technologies and the energy transition; prior experience in heating, HVAC, or energy systems is a plus.

Nice-to-haves:
- Exposure to DFM/DFA, PFMEA, control plans, 8D, 5 Whys, lean manufacturing, tooling, jigs, fixtures or process validation.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, suppliers, outsourced assembly teams or external production partners.
- Experience in high-volume, medium-volume or other repeatable assembly environments.
- Background in electro-mechanical products such as automotive, HVAC, appliances, consumer products, equipment or regulated products.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems, BOM management, routings, work instructions or document control.
