Role Overview
Siemens Rail Infrastructure has recently invested in and relocated to a purpose-built, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and is seeking an exceptional Manufacturing Operations Director to provide leadership across Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics for our Signalling, Electrification and On-Board Communications portfolio.
This is a senior strategic appointment, accountable for shaping the future manufacturing operating model, improving enterprise-wide performance and accelerating the adoption of digitalisation, data intelligence and industrial AI for the UK and overseas markets. The role will set the vision for a smarter, more connected and more resilient manufacturing environment, using automation, digital twins and advanced analytics to deliver step-change improvements in safety, quality, productivity, cost, customer delivery and long-term competitiveness for both new and legacy technologies.
Key Responsibilities
You'll be responsible for...
- Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Provide visible leadership for health, safety and wellbeing, embedding a proactive safety culture and ensuring performance is measured, challenged and continuously improved.
- Digitalisation & AI Leadership: Act as the executive sponsor for digital manufacturing and industrial AI, sponsoring scalable transformation programmes that embed automation, analytics, digital workflows and connected systems across manufacturing operations.
- Future Manufacturing Strategy: Establish a smart manufacturing roadmap that connects people, processes, data and technology, while leading and growing business development.
- Collaboration: Engage and support workflow processes across the overall business lifecycle, including R&D, Manufacturing, Project Delivery and Maintenance, ensuring our total solutions are safe, secure, ethical and commercially focused.
- Manufacturing Excellence: Ensure safety-critical manufacturing and the efficient, reliable delivery of products to internal and external customers, with a clear focus on on-time, in-full performance.
- Quality & Reliability: Maintain the highest standards of product quality, reliability and compliance, ensuring robust governance and continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
- Cost & Productivity: Drive cost competitiveness, productivity improvement and purchase savings through disciplined operational management and data-led decision-making.
- Strategic Leadership: Define and lead the long-term manufacturing strategy, operating model and transformation agenda. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role will be a key member of the Operations Management Team, influencing senior stakeholders and contributing to wider Rail Infrastructure priorities, investment decisions and business strategy.
- Performance Leadership: Lead the function through strong, collaborative and accountable leadership, ensuring operational plans translate into safe, profitable and timely delivery.
- Financial & Commercial Performance: Own the financial and operational performance of the manufacturing function, ensuring robust budget control, resource optimisation, customer confidence and effective resolution of contractual and commercial matters.

What We're Looking For
You'll win us over with...
- Leadership Training: Proven leadership and management training.
- Experience: Substantial senior leadership experience across manufacturing, engineering and logistics, with accountability for P&L, operational performance, customer delivery, transformation leadership and deployment of digital or smart manufacturing strategies.
- Executive Capability: Outstanding strategic leadership, commercial judgement, financial acumen, stakeholder influence and safety leadership, combined with a strong understanding of digitalisation, data analytics, AI-enabled operations and emerging technologies in complex manufacturing environments.
