Manufacturing Shift Supervisor - Deeside, UK

Salamander Solutions Ltd is a global manufacturer of heater cable systems for the oil industry and is seeking a skilled and experienced Mill Line Lead Operator to join our Deeside team in North Wales, UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and overseeing the safe, efficient, and quality-driven operation of an assigned production shift within a mineral-insulated cable manufacturing facility. Supervises production, maintenance, welding, and testing personnel to achieve production goals, maintain equipment performance, and ensure product quality. Manages shift-level documentation, inventory transactions, and workforce development while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. This hands-on leadership role requires strong manufacturing experience, effective communication skills, and the ability to coach and develop a multidisciplinary team.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise daily shift operations to ensure safe, efficient, and quality-driven production while meeting output and performance targets.
  • Coordinate and direct production, maintenance, welding, and testing personnel, assigning priorities and resources to support operational objectives.
  • Monitor equipment performance, oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards through oversight of product testing, inspection activities, non-conformance management, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, maintenance, inventory, and shift documentation in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee inventory consumption, material transactions, and inventory accuracy within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Provide coaching, training, performance feedback, and employee development to build technical competency, safety awareness, and operational flexibility.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with safety policies, conducting investigations, and supporting regulatory and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive productivity, maintain operational continuity, and support plant objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in a metal manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead operator role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a multidisciplinary hourly workforce across production, maintenance, and quality functions.
  • Working knowledge of metal forming, tube production, or continuous processing lines — including PLC-controlled equipment and HMI operation advantageous
  • Proven track record in documentation discipline: shift reporting, quality records, work orders.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems; experience with non-conformance management, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of automated manufacturing processes, including laser welding, specialty wire, precision metal products, or mineral-insulated cable production.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, inventory transactions, and production reporting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, TPM, and ISO 9001 quality management principles.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills with the ability to build accountability and drive performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities, with a focus on safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including documentation, shift handovers, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Strong commitment to accurate recordkeeping, regulatory compliance, and fostering a safety-first culture.
