About the Role
Reporting to: RPM Manufacturing Manager
A typical day in this role might include:
- Building and testing complex sub-assemblies and assembling tools following build and test documentation
- Identifying and reporting manufacturing issues while collaborating with the engineering team to resolve them
- Supporting the manufacturing team in maintaining and improving production processes and overall product quality
- Assisting the NPI Manager and RPM Manufacturing Manager in delivering products to customers on time
- Creating and maintaining clear, well-documented build notes and test procedures when required
- Generating Bills of Materials (BOMs) where necessary
- Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in both production and cleanroom environments
- Kitting assemblies in line with the BOM as needed
- Supporting the Operations team in upholding a strong focus on health and safety across the business

Key Responsibilities
✅ Building and testing complex high-technology products ✅ Assembling optical components and working with lasers ✅ Performing wiring/soldering to IPC standards ✅ Collaborating with engineering teams through product development and release ✅ Ensuring quality control and adherence to manufacturing standards ✅ Demonstrating adaptability and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment
Requirements & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing technician role
- Hands-on experience in:
- Building and testing complex high-technology products
- Assembly of optical components and the use of lasers
- Wiring/soldering to standards
- Working through product life-cycle stages (development to release)
- Quality control and manufacturing engineering
- Strong hand-eye coordination
- Proficiency in technical English
Nice to Have but Not Required
- Experience in the semiconductor field
- Knowledge of building and testing optical systems (lasers, fibres, electronics, electro-mechanics)
- Experience working in a cleanroom environment
Education & Qualifications
- An HND or Degree in electro-mechanical assembly or a related discipline, or
- Equivalent experience through an apprenticeship or relevant hands-on training

Location and Work Pattern
All UK hires begin with on-site working for the first three months in Abingdon. After probation, flexible hybrid working is offered where possible.
