Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.

Your Impact

At Leonardo, we have an opportunity for experienced Manufacturing Technicians to join our team. The Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business, based in Edinburgh, is uniquely positioned as one of the world's top manufacturers of radars, lasers and infrared countermeasure systems.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Microelectronics Inspector to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection and verification of microelectronic assemblies, ensuring products meet customer, regulatory, and internal workmanship standards including MIL-STD-883. Working within a controlled cleanroom environment, the role requires a strong understanding of IPC standards, inspection techniques, and the ability to identify defects at both component and assembly level using high-magnification optical equipment.

The ideal candidate will have experience inspecting complex hybrid microelectronics, PCB assemblies, Gold wire wire-bonded devices, and high-reliability products within a quality-driven manufacturing environment.

Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to be on site and may be required to work a 4 days on 4 days off shift pattern.

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will join our Operations team and have the opportunity to build cross-functional relationships and be a positive influence within the IPT to support the future of the business.

You’ll work on things like the radar for a Typhoon fighter jet, surveillance systems that are used by coast guards to save lives at sea, or involved in assembly of 'cutting edge' avionic systems for a wide range of military aircraft.

If you are someone who thrives at meeting business and customer goals then perhaps it’s time for a change.

Shift working may be a pre-requisite for this role and that may include nightshift.

What you’ll do as a Manufacturing Technician:

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will have the opportunity to proactively engage in activities such as:

  • Working in a cleanroom environment to manufacture high value, high accuracy opto-mechanical, opto-electrical & electro-mechanical assemblies though various production processes.
  • Processes include, but not limited to, hand assembly, inspection / assembly under a stereoscope/microscope, precision bonding (Radial / Fillet / OGP)
  • PCA soldering
  • Assemble products in accordance with documented processes to time, cost and quality.
  • To identify and pursue solutions to shortcomings with respect to production methods and documentation.
  • Interpretation and adherence to manufacturing planning
  • Maintain effective and pro-active communication with Project, Quality and Engineering functions
  • To ensure standard handover procedure and effective communication is applied over all products
  • Responsibility for designated 5s areas to be completed in line with daily/weekly/monthly sign off sheets
  • You may have opportunities to contribute towards the investigation and analysis of leading edge development methodologies and influence the future path of development within Leonardo
  • Most training will be delivered through on-the-job experience

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
