MBDA are looking for a Test Subject Matter Expert for our Manufacturing Test Policy & Processes area. This role provides a fantastic opportunity to shape how MBDA works, within the Manufacturing Technical Experts and Producibility team across all projects from future concepts to series production.

Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen only

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) Developed Vetting (DV) security checks, which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

This role will require you to undertake DV clearance

The opportunity:

An opportunity has become available in our Manufacturing Technical Experts and Producibility Team for a Subject Matter Expert in Manufacturing Test Policy & Processes within Manufacturing UK. As Subject Matter Expert you will be reporting to the Technical Expert and Producibility Co-ordinator and working alongside the Manufacturing Technical Experts and Producibility Engineers.

The Technical Expert and Producibility Team is involved in all aspects of manufacturing, testability and producibility covering product design, product testability, test equipment design and deployment, and accompanying policies, processes and technical standards. We engage throughout the product life cycle across multiple programmes, establishing robust and effective interfaces with product design teams to ensure appropriate manufacturing test methods, capabilities and techniques are considered and acted upon.

As a Subject Matter Expert, you will work on the following:

  • Participate and lead manufacturing test activities for on new Manufacturing Programmes including reviewing BID proposals, advising on design for test, providing technical inputs on test facility/equipment design, and ensuring correct implementation / compliance with company processes through engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical leadership and specialist expertise relating to manufacturing test in support of current Manufacturing Programmes including advising on technical matters, conducting detailed technical reviews, carrying out investigations, and providing support and input to all types of test documentation
  • Undertake lessons learnt across Manufacturing Programmes with the objective of influencing future product development processes, embedding design for test into products, engaging in de-risking activities and investigations, and ensuring adherence to best practice across Manufacturing Programmes
  • Concept and lead IRAD projects aligned to the needs of Manufacturing UK and the Manufacturing Technology Roadmaps; this will involve working within the wider Technical Expert and Producibility Team on projects with common themes and engaging internal MBDA stakeholders and external companies and academic organisations
  • Lead continuous improvement and functional activities across Manufacturing UK, including technical, systemic and procedural improvements to BMS policies, processes and technical standards
  • Identify and promote manufacturing test best practice and functional excellence across Manufacturing UK utilising current standards and peer-reviewed literature
  • Strong interpersonal and well-developed communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Willingness to travel when required, including travel across the UK and within the EU

  • To demonstrate significant experience and knowledge within own field of expertise, with proven evidence of providing expert advice, guidance and support
  • Ability to work in and provide technical leadership to high value/complex projects with the ability to win hearts and minds of others and guiding them through challenges
  • Demonstrate a high-level of autonomy with the ability to conceptualise, plan and organise own work in order to ensure multiple tasks can be prioritised and delivered against Functional and Project objectives
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail capable of drawing conclusions/commonality from across multiple projects or teams
  • Ability to communicate with all levels effectively; challenge, negotiate and influence to achieve a desired goal/outcome
  • Act as a mentor for others within your peer group and across Manufacturing UK
  • Be willing to undertake the United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) Developed Vetting (DV) process
