Job Description:

Role Synopsis

As part of the Assurance Team, the Marine Advisor, Assessment & Inspection provides marine assurance support to bp Shipping and bp businesses globally. The role is responsible for conducting marine assurance assessments and inspections, providing specialist marine advice, and supporting the safe, compliant and efficient execution of marine-related activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct assessments and inspections of vessel owners, ship managers, terminal and port facilities, and STS contractors to evaluate compliance with applicable standards and suitability for bp business.
  • Coordinate scheduling activities for CAT 3 barge and SIRE 2.0 inspections, including management of associated invoicing processes.
  • Provide technical input to the development, implementation and maintenance of bp marine standards.
  • Support third-party contractors performing assessment, inspection and marine assurance activities on behalf of bp.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across specialist marine operations, including ship-to-ship transfer activities, towage and pilotage operations.
  • Support internal partners by providing marine assurance advice and technical guidance.
  • Participate in internal governance activities and relevant external industry forums as required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support the development and sharing of assessment and inspection standard methodologies to promote global consistency.
  • Support current and future marine-related activities across bp through project reviews, peer reviews, pre-start-up reviews and post-start-up audits.
  • Ensure all activities are completed in accordance with bp policies, expected behaviours, Group Functional Standards, Marine Standards and the Operating Management System.

Essential Education & Qualifications

  • Certificate of Competency Class II/2 or III/2 (Master, Chief Mate, Chief Engineer or Second Engineer) with experience serving in a senior officer capacity on oil, gas or chemical tankers; OR
  • Equivalent professional marine qualification with substantial experience in ship operations, ship management, marine terminal operations or marine terminal management, including experience associated with oil, gas or chemical tankers.
  • Chartered Professional Status.

Essential Experience & Requirements

  • Experience planning, scheduling and conducting terminal assessments.
  • Experience planning, scheduling and conducting company assessments.
  • Experience planning, scheduling and conducting STS contractor assessments.
  • Experience handling vessel inspection programmes, including planning, coordination and quality assurance activities.
  • Experience leading risk assessments and supporting Management of Change (MoC) processes.
  • Strong understanding of marine assurance, inspection and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to provide technical advice and influence partners across a range of marine activities.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Knowledge of project planning and project assurance processes.
  • Experience promoting open and effective communication across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge of IMO regulations, industry standards and marine protocol guidance.
  • Experience in hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Broad understanding of bp Shipping activities and marine operations.
