Help Keep Global Trade Moving
Ready to earn, learn and launch your career? This is more than your first job. You'll gain real experience, work towards a recognised qualification and build skills that will shape your future.
Every day, ships and businesses transport goods around the world. Our Marine, Cargo & Logistics teams help clients protect their ships, cargo and transport operations if something goes wrong, such as damage, theft, accidents or delays.
You'll gain exposure across our different Marine, Cargo and Logistics teams, working alongside our brokers, technicians and claims professionals to learn how we support our clients. This will give you experience in several areas and help you discover where your interests and strengths lie.
You'll join Howden on a permanent role and complete an 18-month development programme designed to develop your technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.
What you'll be doing?
You will begin with a structured induction before joining our Marine, Cargo & Logistics team, where you will work alongside experienced colleagues and gradually take on more responsibility.
During the programme, you'll:
- Rotate across different areas of Marine, Cargo and Logistics insurance.
- Learn how businesses use insurance to protect their ships, cargo and transport operations.
- Support the team with processing insurance information and client requests.
- Learn how an insurance policy moves from a client's first enquiry through to placement, servicing and renewal.
- Support the team with keeping our systems and client records up to date.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
