Job Description

About the Role

The successful candidate will undertake to manage the workload and performance of the marine claims team, including FCM team, and identify their training needs. The Manager will oversee and handle a range of marine claims from beginning to end and will liaise with Head Office, other agents, internal departments, lawyers, recovery agents, customers, and insurers. All claims to be handled as per our Principals guidance and direct instructions.

How You Will Help Us and What You Can Expect

  • Manage & direct the workload and performance of the Marine Claim Handlers & work with FCM Team Supervisor to ensure that all claims are handled correctly and in good time
  • Identify the training needs of the team and how to deliver this training
  • To handle marine claims, including cargo, container, vessel, personal injury, payment, devan/revan, and recoveries from beginning to end. (Though much of this will be delegated to the team, the manager also needs to ensure that they handle claims, especially with the larger & more complicated claims including reefers. These major issues will include collision claims, stack collapse on vessels, port incidents, and the manager may need to take a lead role in these instances locally
  • To ensure all marine claims are accurately completed in various the various UK & GVA systems and appropriate spreadsheets
  • To liaise with Head Office, other MSC agents, other UK departments, customer, claimants, and insurers
  • To recover liability amounts from third parties whenever possible
  • To communicate and explain claims issues to other members of staff, the claims team, and customers
  • To review procedures and ensure the workflow follows the administrative processes as dictated by MSC Geneva and Internal Quality procedures. To ensure all procedures, policies, etc., are entered and updated in “The Anchor” & Igrafx as received or changed
  • To consistently improve year-on-year UK department’s position within MSC Geneva’s Agency (Claims) internal appraisal document

Skills and Experience You’ll Bring to Us

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Passion for people and developing performing teams to build a strong talent pipeline within the team for the future at all levels
  • Ensure that all the priorities are understood by our people, so they are translated into clear, focused, and purposeful individual and collective action
  • Ability to prioritize own & team’s workloads
  • Ability to remain calm and resilient under pressure
  • Previous experience of marine/cargo related claims – at least two years active handling
  • Previous supervisory/management experience preferred - At least two years
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft packages essential, including Word and Excel
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to develop and maximize the skills, knowledge, and productivity of the team
  • Flexible attitude and approach to the needs of the team & department
  • Working towards or already passed Professional Marine Qualifications and/or industry training.
  • Knowledge of shipping a positive advantage especially Bills of Lading, incoterms, and inter-relation between various parties in the logistics supply chain
