MARINE ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE
Estuary Services Limited operates a fleet of fast pilot launches from Ramsgate and Sheerness, serving the Ports of London and Medway. Commencing September 2026, the company is looking to recruit a Marine Engineering Apprentice, based at Ramsgate, on a three-year fixed-term contract.
Requirements
- GCSE in English (grade 4/C)
- GCSE in Maths (grade 4/C)
- GCSE in Science (grade 4/C) (Desirable)
- Other relevant qualifications and industry experience are welcomed and may adjust the apprenticeship.
- Ability to attain an ENG1 Seafarers medical certificate, prior to the offer being made by ESL.

Responsibilities
- General servicing of company vessels, both afloat and ashore.
- Fault finding on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic, electronic and electrical systems, including CAN bus.
- Repair of all other vessel fixtures, fittings and ancillary equipment.
- Using the defect system to post, update or complete defects in a timely manner.
- Storekeeping, keeping the Engineering Manager and Technical supervisor aware when parts are used and when near depletion for re-ordering.
- Operating with common sense and due regard for the health, safety, and well-being of self, co-workers and anyone else within the range of operations.
- Testing engines and equipment following repair, which may require the use of a laptop.
- Requesting sea trials to test the work completed.
- Working with ESL staff to ensure deadlines are met, in order to maintain an uninterrupted boarding and landing operation 24/7- 365 days a year.
- Assisting with sub-contracted agency workers as necessary.
- Comply with attendance of necessary staff training courses.

About Estuary Services Limited
Estuary Services Limited is a subsidiary company owned by the Port of London Authority to provide a boarding and landing service for pilots joining and leaving ships trading to London and Medway. The company has 6 fast launches based at Ramsgate and Sheerness and serve ships at the N.E. Spit Buoy, Margate Roads Anchorage, the Warps/Oaze Deep and the Anchorages at Southend and the Great Nore. These launches are available, subject to pilotage requirements, to transfer ships crews, personnel and small stores to and from vessels in the above areas.
