About The Role

Power the future. Protect our oceans.

At National Grid, we’re not just connecting energy – we’re transforming how it’s delivered. As part of The Great Grid Upgrade, we’re investing in critical offshore infrastructure to power a cleaner, more secure future.

This is your opportunity to shape sustainable offshore projects at scale – protecting marine environments, reducing environmental impact, and delivering infrastructure that leaves a positive legacy for generations to come.

You’ll be aligned to major offshore infrastructure projects across the East coast of England and Scotland, working at the forefront of the Strategic Infrastructure portfolio. This is a role that goes beyond the office – you’ll spend time on-site, engaging directly with Marine Operational Safety, project teams, and supply chain partners, seeing the real-world impact of your work.

With flexible hybrid working and access to offices in Warwick, London, Leeds and Edinburgh, you’ll have the freedom to work in a way that supports both collaboration and autonomy.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll ensure sustainability is not an afterthought – but built into every stage of delivery.

  • Lead the integration of environmental and sustainability principles across offshore and marine activities
  • Translate strategy and commitments into real, on-the-ground impact
  • Act as the marine E&S subject matter expert, advising project teams, contractors and stakeholders
  • Drive delivery of marine carbon reduction and nature enhancement initiatives
  • Embed environmental controls across surveys, engineering and procurement
  • Use data, insight and assurance to manage risk and unlock opportunities
  • Work with subsea cable and marine partners to raise environmental standards across the sector
  • Champion innovation and industry best practice

What We're Looking For

You combine technical credibility with a genuine passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
