Littlehampton Harbour Board are recruiting for a Marine Operations Assistant and Coxswain to join our team! You’ll play a key role in keeping our marine operations safe, efficient, and dynamic.
About the Role
As a Marine Operations Assistant – Coxswain, you’ll be part of a skilled, friendly marine team supporting a wide range of harbour activities.
- Lead the maintenance of our vessels, equipment, and berths
- Act as coxswain/crew during operations afloat
- Support safety-critical inspections
- Take part in our rostered weekend Duty Officer system – ensuring smooth harbour operations and responding to incidents when needed

Key Responsibilities
- Act as coxswain / crew for all LHB vessels
- Maintain, repair, and replace harbour equipment, berths, infrastructure, and vessels
- Inspect and maintain lifting equipment, life-saving appliances, and ensure that vessel coding requirements are met
- Act as a weekend Duty Officer between April and September. Responsible for managing the weekend duty team and being on-call to respond to incidents. Weekend duty is shared on a rotational basis.
What You’ll Bring
- An STCW Certificate of Competency and a commercially endorsed powerboat qualification (or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence
- A team-focused attitude and strong communication and planning skills
- Experience with planned maintenance systems
- Currently hold, or be able to pass, an ENG1 Medical
- Living within (or willing to relocate to within) 1 hour’s commute of Littlehampton Harbour
