This is a senior, hands-on role requiring substantial experience within the marine industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate and commercially robust estimates, managing projects from enquiry through to completion, and ensuring that work is delivered safely, on time, to specification and within agreed budgets.

The role will involve working closely with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams, while supporting the company’s commercial and operational objectives.

The role will be based at Manor Marine’s Portland shipyard and will involve regular interaction with workshops, vessels, suppliers, subcontractors and customers. Site visits and occasional travel may be required.

The role may require occasional overtime, weekend working or attendance outside normal working hours to meet project and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating and Commercial Management

  • Review customer enquiries, specifications, drawings and technical requirements to establish project scope.
  • Resolve customer queries, ambiguities and requirements before pricing and throughout project delivery.
  • Review design drawings and identify potential technical, commercial and programme risks.
  • Obtain and evaluate competitive prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Use previous and similar works to support accurate pricing and identify potential efficiencies.
  • Develop project budgets, resource requirements and cost forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, committed expenditure and financial performance.
  • Identify variations, additional works and potential commercial risks at an early stage.
  • Ensure changes to scope are properly documented, priced and agreed with the customer.
  • Support the preparation and review of contractual and commercial documentation.

Project Management and Delivery

  • Take responsibility for the planning and delivery of allocated projects from enquiry through to completion and handover.
  • Create and issue project plans detailing key milestones, objectives, resources and timescales.
  • Monitor project plans and ensure required actions are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Monitor and record progress through the production process.
  • Ensure materials, goods, equipment and resources are available when required.
  • Track project milestones, completion dates and customer delivery requirements.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may affect cost, quality or programme.
  • Report project progress, risks and commercial performance to the General Manager.
  • Ensure all required operations, checks, inspections and completion activities are carried out and recorded.
  • Support commissioning, trials, acceptance and final handover activities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
