What you bring

• A degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years program) and/or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
• General knowledge of marine power plant engineering with particular emphasis on static shaft alignment analysis and dynamic response (including torsional, axial, lateral, and 6-degrees of freedom vibration analysis) of marine propulsion shafting systems; comprising diesel engines, electric motors, shafting, gearing, dampers, couplings, cardan shafts, rolling element and journal bearings, fixed pitch and controllable pitch propellers, etc.
• Working knowledge and good experience of numerical methods such as finite element (FE), boundary element (BE) methods such as NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, MSC Marc, FEMAP, for stress analysis, fatigue analysis (including spectral fatigue). A knowledge of linear fracture mechanics such as CRACKWISE, BEASY, and structural reliability-based techniques and probabilistic analyses would be an advantage.
• Ability to apply knowledge and experience to a wide range of technical investigations in the marine and offshore industry providing timely solutions in line with client expectations.
• Technical report writing skills.
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution would be desirable.
• Working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status would be preferred.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, LabView, and FORTRAN would be an advantage.
• Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
• Eligible to live and work in the UK and meet standard visa requirements for overseas travel.
• You have or be able to achieve UK Naval security clearance without restrictions. (National security vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK)
