Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Superintendent with a strong nautical and tanker background to join our shore-based team in Newcastle. This is a senior, hands-on position for a proven maritime professional who can take immediate ownership of the role and provide effective operational support from day one.
Reporting to the Head of Marine and Vetting, you will act as the fleet’s subject-matter expert for cargo, mooring, and ballast operations. The position requires regular international travel and attendance on board vessels to conduct audits, inspections, and operational assessments. The position is employed by Bernhard Schulte Management (BSM) but is fully dedicated and integrated in Flex LNG Fleet Management.

Key responsibilities
- Provide nautical, cargo, and commercial-operational support to assigned vessels.
- Own and maintain fleet procedures relating to cargo, mooring, and ballast operations.
- Monitor regulatory and industry developments and implement necessary procedural improvements.
- Perform navigational, cargo, and mooring audits, as well as internal ISM and ISPS audits.
- Support vessels with pre-vetting preparation and follow up on SIRE, PSC, ASI, and other third-party inspections.
- Assess navigational, communication, and safety equipment in cooperation with the Technical Superintendent.
- Monitor vessel safety and pollution-prevention performance, ensuring adequate shore-based support and resources.
- Participate in incident investigations and the company’s Emergency Response Team.
- Promote strong safety leadership and support the appraisal, coaching, and development of senior shipboard personnel.
- Maintain effective working relationships with oil majors, customers, classification societies, authorities, and external service providers.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, voyage efficiency, and cost-effective fleet operations.
- CSO/ACSO for the fleet.

What We're Looking For
- Qualified Master Mariner.
- Substantial seagoing experience on tankers in a senior officer capacity; LNG carrier experience is strongly preferred.
- At least three years’ experience as a Marine Superintendent, Vetting Manager, or DPA, or a minimum of five years’ relevant shore-based experience with a ship-management company.
- Demonstrable expertise in cargo, mooring, ballast, navigation, and marine operations.
- ISM Auditor and Navigational Assessor qualifications.
- Strong working knowledge of ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and the OCIMF/SIRE vetting regime.
- Proven audit, inspection, and incident-investigation experience.
- Able to work independently, make sound operational decisions, and provide credible guidance to senior officers.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Fluent in English, with excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
- Willing and able to travel regularly and attend vessels worldwide.
