Overview

Expleo is seeking two Marine Systems Integration Engineer to support one of our clients in the integration, commissioning, and development of advanced maritime platforms.

The successful candidate will act as the technical interface between mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams, ensuring that onboard systems are successfully integrated into a coherent operational capability. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, the role requires an engineer capable of rapidly understanding complex systems, identifying integration issues, and applying first-principles engineering to resolve technical challenges.

Purpose of the Role

To enable successful integration of hardware and software across complex maritime systems by coordinating the interaction between electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software subsystems, ensuring that vessel functionality meets operational and performance requirements.

This role requires full site attendance (Portsmouth) for the first 2 months, then 2-3 days until February 2027, and 3-4 days until July 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical integration engineer between hardware and software development teams.
  • Develop an understanding of complex vessel systems and their interactions.
  • Analyse system behaviour and identify root causes of integration issues.
  • Support integration of control software with onboard hardware.
  • Work with software engineers to define hardware interfaces and control logic.
  • Support integration of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
  • Assist with system commissioning, fault finding, and functional testing.
  • Support vessel trials and verification activities where required.
  • Break down complex technical problems using structured engineering approaches.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure technical solutions are delivered efficiently.
  • Produce concise technical documentation where required.

Qualifications

Candidates should typically possess between 3–10 years of relevant engineering experience within complex engineering environments. Experience should include:

  • Integration of multidisciplinary engineering systems.
  • Software engineering or embedded software development.
  • Electrical and electronic engineering.
  • Hardware/software interface development.
  • Engineering problem solving within complex products.
  • Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Rapid understanding of unfamiliar systems.

Experience within maritime, defence, or other highly integrated engineering sectors would be advantageous.

  • Ability to understand complex engineering systems quickly.
  • Strong software engineering knowledge.
