About the Role
We are seeking a motivated, driven and technically minded BDM to join the team of a global manufacturer based at their Plymouth site. In this role, the Marine Technical BDM will play a pivotal role in driving strategic growth across UK and Norwegian manufacturing operations. Combining strong engineering expertise with commercial acumen, the role is focused on identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities across our global customer base.
At the heart of the role is building strong relationships both internally and externally. Working closely with key stakeholders and technical teams, the role will uncover cross-selling opportunities, develop innovative solutions and engage directly with customers to strengthen partnerships and deliver sustainable commercial growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute business development strategies to support sustainable growth across the UK and Norwegian manufacturing facilities.
- Identify and drive cross-selling opportunities by promoting the full range of manufacturing capabilities available across both sites.
- Build strong relationships with existing customers, identifying opportunities to expand business through additional products, services and manufacturing solutions.
- Generate new business opportunities through market research, networking, customer visits and industry events.
- Work collaboratively with the sales, engineering, design and production teams to develop commercially attractive technical solutions for customers.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of company products, manufacturing processes and engineering capabilities to confidently present technical solutions.
- Support the preparation of technical proposals, quotations and customer presentations.
- Maintain regular communication with both UK and Norwegian teams to ensure alignment on business opportunities and customer requirements.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging technologies to identify future growth opportunities.
- Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, exhibitions and international visits.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide regular reporting on opportunities, forecasts and business development activities.
- Support the development of strategic partnerships and long-term customer relationships globally.

Essential Qualification, Experience and Candidate Attributes Required
- Degree educated or a minimum of a HNC/HND in an Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or Product Design discipline. In the absence of the afore mentioned qualification, relevant experience as a Sales Engineer, Technical BDM or Applications Engineer may also be considered.
- Proven, demonstrated experience working as a Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, Technical BDM etc.
- Commercially driven with a proactive approach to business growth.
- Technically curious and eager to understand customer challenges.
- Confident relationship builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative team player capable of working across engineering, manufacturing and sales functions.
- Professional, adaptable and customer focused.
- Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand complex products and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and commercial audiences.
- Ability to build strong internal and external relationships across international teams.
- Self-motivated, organised and results driven.

Package on Offer
- £45K base salary.
- Commission scheme of up to 85% of annual salary depending on products sold, margins achieved etc.
- £6.5K Car Allowance.
- Life assurance (4x salary).

The successful candidate will ideally already be based in Plymouth and must be willing to travel within the UK and Norway, you may also be required to travel to other customers internationally.
