Knowledge of water quality and the marine environment is essential. You should be comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings. Training and development opportunities will be provided.

Job Description

Do you care about the marine environment? Do you have experience of assessing the impacts of discharges on estuarine and coastal water quality? Are you looking for opportunities to demonstrate technical leadership? If so, this fixed term assignment could be a great opportunity for you to enhance your CV.

You’ll join the Marine team in Operations Catchment Services, where we apply our technical expertise in marine environments, modelling, and data analysis to support evidence-based decisions.

We assess the impact of discharges on water quality across key work areas, including Nuclear New Build, major infrastructure projects, and the Water Industry National Environment Programme. We also model bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries.

As a team of water quality specialists and officers, we work collaboratively, sharing skills and building strong relationships with customers to ensure they understand and trust our advice.

The Team

We are a national team of marine water quality specialists within Operations Catchment Services. We work virtually using smart tools and meet in person when needed, offering flexibility on location. Training and mentoring will be provided.

Experience/skills Required

You will have experience in data analysis and knowledge of modelling software.

Skills in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages like Mike or Cormix are an advantage.

You will be able to:

  • Review complex reports and clearly communicate key issues to non-technical audiences
  • Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection
  • Summarise and communicate technical work and escalate challenges when needed
  • Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners
  • Use your initiative to contribute to the work of the team and wider team
  • Delegate work and deliver through others

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
