Job Title: Maritime Intelligence Analyst

Role Profile
The Maritime Intelligence Analyst plays a critical role in transforming complex maritime, shipping, and trade datasets into actionable intelligence.
Working in the Maritime Intelligence Unit at the intersection of data, analytics, and human expertise, the role focuses on uncovering patterns, risks, and opportunities across global maritime activity, enabling better decision-making and high-impact intelligence.
This position requires a highly analytical, self-driven individual who is comfortable working with large-scale datasets and extracting and communicating insights clearly to a range of stakeholders.
This is a full-time permanent role reporting to the Maritime Intelligence & Research Director.
This role is permanent and offers balanced working with 2-3 days a week in our London office.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse large, complex maritime datasets (e.g. AIS, trade flows, sanctions, risk intelligence) to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable insights
- Reviewing, maintaining and responding to enquiries on vessel watchlists and other data
- Write and optimise SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyse structured and semi-structured data
- Help develop and maintain dashboards and interactive visualisations that support internal teams and external users
- Translate complex data findings into clear, compelling narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, data, production, and tech teams to shape data-driven outputs
- Respond rapidly to evolving priorities, delivering timely insights in dynamic and fast-moving environments
- Support analyst and editorial initiatives such as data analysis, visual storytelling, and fact-based insights
- Contribute to the design and development of intuitive data products and operational intelligence tools

What we are looking for:
Essential
- Strong SQL and data extraction capabilities
- Knowledge of maritime domains such as AIS vessel tracking data, sanctions, trade flows, and risk intelligence
- Proven experience working with large and complex datasets
- Excellent analytical thinking with a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain data insights clearly to diverse audiences
- Hands-on experience with dashboarding and visualisation tools
- Strong collaboration skills and experience working across multidisciplinary teams

Desirable
- Python scripting
- Familiarity with geospatial and/or time-series datasets and analytical techniques
- Designing intuitive dashboards, data products, or operational intelligence visualisations
- Supporting editorial teams or contributing to data-driven content
