Role: MARITIME SIGNATURES MODELLING SPECIALISTS – WE NEED YOU!

Salary range: up to 100k per annum depending on experience

Location: Bristol, Leatherhead, Burton or Glasgow

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Are you prepared to play a crucial role in the UK’s underwater defence strategy? With major new-build ship and submarine programmes, and a range of cutting-edge R&D technology development initiatives — we’re expanding our Maritime Signatures team, and we want skilled experts like you.

About the Role

As a Maritime Signatures modelling specialist, you’ll contribute to a diverse portfolio of exciting and technically challenging projects. You’ll deliver high-value technical insight and strategic guidance to clients across the defence sector. Working alongside multi-disciplinary teams — and in close partnership with other stakeholders — you’ll help shape projects that play a direct and vital role in supporting the UK’s defence.

We’re Looking for Experts with Experience in any of the following areas:

  • Acoustic and Non-Acoustic Signatures
  • Sonar Modelling and Data Processing
  • Ocean Physics and Oceanographic Data Analysis
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the Underwater Battlespace
  • Signature Aspects of Maritime Platform Engineering for Crewed and Uncrewed Assets

If you have a comprehensive understanding of the relevant physics, engineering concepts and an inquisitive mind for solving complicated problems, we’d like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality engineering analysis, modelling, design support, and operational advice.
  • Engage with clients across industry and government.
  • Deploy excellent communication and report writing skills to make an impact.
  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and strategic consultancy work.
  • Work as part of diverse, technically capable project teams.
  • Support development of junior engineers and promote best practice.
  • Help shape technical solutions that improve safety, reliability, and performance.

Requirements

  • You’ll bring some of the following (depending on discipline):
    • Degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM field.
    • Experience in maritime signatures for the defence industry.
    • Knowledge of modelling and simulation for maritime signatures, including strong first principles understanding of the underlying physics.
    • Highly developed problem-solving abilities coupled with effective communication skills.
    • Ability to manage tasks and collaborate across teams.
    • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
    • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
    • Eligibility for UK security clearance (SC or DV).
    • Progressing toward Chartership or already chartered (desirable).
