Sitting within the Buy-Side Directorate, the Market and Policy (MAP) Department identifies sector risks and develops policy to support effective supervision across the asset management, funds and pensions sectors. Within this, the Asset Management Sector Team plays a vital role in developing market intelligence and overseeing strategic supervisory work in response to identified risks within the Buyside market.

- Turn data and intelligence into meaningful insight, identifying emerging risks and opportunities to inform strategic decisions and deliver positive regulatory outcomes
- Build expertise in the asset management sector and wider market environment, using your knowledge to support effective supervision and contribute to the FCA’s regulatory priorities
- Collaborate across teams to identify, assess and escalate emerging risks, supporting proactive action and helping the FCA respond confidently to a changing market landscape
- Create clear, impactful briefings, reports and presentations that enable informed decision-making, improve stakeholder involvement and influence key regulatory discussions
- Promote innovative, data-led approaches that enhance regulatory effectiveness, helping deliver smarter oversight and better outcomes for firms, markets and millions of consumers

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
