About the Role
The Global Underwater Hub (GUH) is a strategically focused, intelligence-led organisation that aims to transform the UK’s underwater industry into one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the country.
Led and governed by industry, GUH represents, promotes and support project owners and supply chain across all sectors of the underwater industry by providing companies with the market information, connections and access to specialist expertise that they need to grow.
In addition, GUH has identified a range of strategic programmes and specific focus areas on elements of the underwater supply chain which represent the best opportunities for success for the UK supply chain in domestic and global offshore projects.
Role Objectives / Scope
The Market Data Coordinator plays a key role in an expanding Strategic Intelligence function. At a high level, this function directs the inwards flow of high quality quantitative and qualitative sources and ensuring that the output is of quality intelligence for a number of uses. This includes direction setting for the GUH, high value reports, opinion pieces, event and special interest group recommendations and in the form of self-service intelligence offerings for GUH members through a Market Intelligence Platform (MIP). Much of the output in the initial term will also serve to support a large-scale supply chain mapping exercise which has recently been launched by GUH.
The primary focus of the Market Data Coordinator is to oversee the provision and availability of intelligence for internal and external purposes. The source of this information will be from public sources supplemented by subject matter expertise arising from GUH network, events and contacts. This will include the design of data point requirements, sources, management and update of the system and ensuring that the outputs are relevant and useful. The role will also assist in the design of the output format via dashboards, visualisations, reports or other outputs which are appropriate and market leading
With an overarching requirement to ensure that data is complete across the global supply and demand seascape for multiple offshore sectors, the role will provide an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the industry. As such, the role offers natural opportunities to build output and analysis skills, ultimately turning data into intelligence. The role will also offer exposure to GUH strategic programmes which will focus on particular areas of the underwater supply chain from which the sourced data will be important to provide context and market opportunities.

In addition, the Market Data Coordinator will work with the Strategic Intelligence team in the delivery of proposed projects to allow the GUH to provide a high-value, potentially revenue generating, quality intelligence offering to its members, stakeholders and partners. The postholder will also take a key role in the preparation and production of the annual Business Survey, additional pulse surveys and other projects as required.
It is essential that the postholder demonstrates all of the GUH core values given regular exposure to commercially sensitive information, providing strategic value, insight and expertise to further the GUH and its members and the level of collaboration required across all internal and external areas.
The post holder therefore needs to be able to collaborate cross industry within the underwater sector and to deliver relevant market intelligence, trends and opportunities for member companies. It is essential therefore that the role holder approaches any and all developments within the underwater sector with the question ‘so what?’, challenges perceptions and can identify areas of interest and avenues where further interrogation of data would be required, particularly from both supply and demand perspectives simultaneously.
Key Accountabilities
- Support in the design of a research methodology, data taxonomy, validation and design of a suitable data system
- Identify core sources of market and supply chain data from public sources and work with IT team to ensure a regular flow of up-to-date information from these sources
- Design ongoing data capture and data validation processes and tools combining quantitative and qualitative data sources
- Monitor activities and trends, providing on-going analysis of market data across the underwater sector and identifying those elements of importance to GUH and members
- Responsible for the ongoing development, management, promotion and output of the member-facing, self-service intelligence portal
- Identification of additional information sources for use in the internal data collection area and point of contact with technical developers or internal resource to have these sources incorporated.
- Consider the adoption of AI tools as part of data collection and ingestion and lead workscopes with IT and data engineer to develop
- Respond to enquiries from current and prospective members regarding information provided in the Market Intelligence Portal database in a timely, courteous, and useful manner
- Responsible for ad-hoc addition or update of intelligence not covered by the MIP and ensuring that the MIP output represents the wider GUH market.
- Consider innovative ways in which data can be visualised for members and standalone projects to provide added value
- Applying focused and actionable intelligence to data, provide added-value analysis, insight and opinion on themes highlighted by the data and dashboards.
- Key participation in the annual Business Survey and standalone data and analysis projects
- Any other duties as directed by the Market Intelligence Analyst, Strategy & Policy Director or CEO as appropriate

Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree / HNC or equivalent relevant experience in an IT or business-related discipline
Demonstrable relevant experience in a Strategy / Market Intelligence / business analyst role, course or environment
Has been exposed to underwater business environments
Has been exposed to analysis, critically reviewing and summarising data and findings
Has been exposed to evaluating business trends and assessing market conditions
Knowledge of and experience of working in and / or with external IT service providers and technical developers
Has proven ability to interact and develop respect with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and senior level management
Knowledge of AI and LLM for data collection, ingestion and analysis
Specific Training / Specialist Skills
- High IT literacy; able to pick up and learn new software and database tools quickly.
- Knowledge and experience of market intelligence database functionality and maintenance
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
- Personal computer proficiency, Microsoft Office 365 skills essential, visualisation tools desirable
- Ability to extract market intelligence information relevant to the underwater industry, manage inputs and generate relevant market reports
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong desire to experience and understand the interaction of Market Analysis and Strategy development
