Salary starting from £66,079 depending on experience
Location: Peterborough

About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. The Opportunity
As the External PR & Communications Manager for the Power Systems division, you will lead global media relations and content strategy for Cat Industrial Engines and Perkins, strengthening brand reputation and increasing visibility across key industry audiences.
Working with senior leaders, subject matter experts and internal stakeholders, you will translate business priorities into compelling stories, integrated communications plans and high-quality content across earned, owned and digital channels. You will lead proactive and reactive media engagement, thought leadership and content supporting key campaigns, product launches and business priorities.
As a trusted communications advisor, the successful candidate will build strong relationships with trade media journalists and use media, audience and performance insights to continually enhance communications effectiveness and strengthen our position as an industry leader.
What You Will Do:
- Establishes and maintains trusted relations with the trade media. Act as a facilitator and liaison between the media and appropriate internal subject matter experts and executives in providing editorial content on company’s product and services
- Provide counsel and guidance to internal groups in developing press materials and events. This includes planning, logistics and execution of media related special events
- Develops comprehensive media and content plans based on company goals
- Provide direct guidance to company managers and executives on media relationships and editorial management
- Responsible for the selection and management of a variety of outside suppliers including copywriters, videographers and photographers
- Develop and maintain a content strategy and calendar to support marketing plans and campaigns
- Track, analyse and report media results
- Monitors evolving media trends and identifies new opportunities to reach target audiences across trade media channels
- Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders within the enterprise to help uncover and tell proactive stories that support our enterprise narratives, business performance, product innovation, strategy and reputation
- Develop media materials as needed, including media pitches, media statements, FAQ’s, media briefings, fact sheets, press releases, media advisors and by-lined articles
- Responsible for executive preparation for media interviews, identifying and anticipating risks, staffing interviews, coaching and providing feedback
- Support the business objective and opportunities to develop and align the marketing tactics.

Skills and Experience:
- Promotion and Marketing Communications: Knowledge of different promotional and marketing communication techniques; ability to use different marketing channels and tools in combination to focus on how a business communicates a message to the market.
- Copywriting and editing knowledge: Ability to write, review and edit texts and documents to promote messaging and brand positioning
- Extensive experience in communications, marketing or media relations
- Experience with trade media and executive communications
- Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
- Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
- Creativity: Knowledge of the approaches, tools, and techniques for promoting creative, original thinking and ability to apply it to a variety of business situations.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
- Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
- Vendor/Supplier Management: Knowledge of external provider management processes and ability to effectively manage the business relationship with external providers (e.g. vendors, service providers, contractors, consultants and suppliers).

Additional Info
The role may require up to 25% travel (domestic and international). The role is based at the Peterborough facility 5 days per week.
