About us
Juto Bio turns whisky distillery waste into crop biostimulants. Farmers are being squeezed by fertiliser prices that have more than doubled since 2020, and the existing alternatives are built on harvested seaweed - expensive, seasonal, and damaging to marine life. We ferment microalgae on distillery waste instead, and sell the result to formulators at less than half the price of our competition.
We're a two-person team out of Imperial College London, backed by VCC, Converge, IBioIC and Y Combinator Startup School, with three distillery partners, a signed letter of intent from a European formulator, and field trials lined up.
The role
Mapping how we understand our market and our customers, with findings going straight into product decisions and investor conversations.

- Map the UK and European biostimulant market: who's selling what, at what price, through which channels
- Build our pricing picture - what formulators actually pay for raw materials, and where we can undercut
- Run customer discovery: cold outreach, interviews, and follow-ups with formulators, agronomists and farmers
- Get out and have the conversations in person - farm visits, agri events, trade conferences
- Work out what customers actually want from a biostimulant, as opposed to what we assume they want
- Learn the industry from the inside and tell us what we're missing
What we need
- Strong background in bioscience/business
- Have built before - understand the startup industry
- Are comfortable starting conversations with strangers - on the phone, over email, and in a muddy field
- Organisational skill - comfortable with agentic workflow
- Are up for travelling within the UK to meet people
