Job title: Marketing and Events Assistant

Reports to: Head of Marketing

Salary: £28-32k per annum, dependent on experience

Tenure: Permanent/Full-time

WeAreWaterloo is a truly local Business Improvement District made up of passionate individuals working to empower local businesses, enhance the Waterloo area and elevate the experience of everyone that visits.

We help improve Waterloo as a place to work, visit and live by delivering diverse and creative programmes that enhance and protect our environment, celebrate and promote its unique character and connect those within it.

We are looking for a creative, highly organised, and enthusiastic team member to support the Marketing Department at WeAreWaterloo. The Marketing and Events Assistant will play a key part in delivering our digital communications and events programme, while contributing to content creation and stakeholder engagement.

Job Purpose:

This role will work closely with the Marketing Manager and Head of Marketing to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of WeAreWaterloo’s marketing and events programme, helping to raise the profile of the BID, engage local audiences, and promote businesses across the BID area.

Key responsibilities:

The areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

Digital:

  • Update and maintain the content on the WAW website (wearewaterloo.co.uk), including uploading news stories, updating the events calendar, ensuring the community directory is up-to-date and overseeing all performance functionality
  • Attend monthly social meetings with our Marketing Manager, who manages the WAW social channels and pitch content ideas, being mindful of upcoming awareness days, new businesses to the area, trends and the BID’s events calendar plus posting content on WAW’s TikTok channel
  • Support the delivery of Lower Marsh Market’s social media activity across Instagram and TikTok, including uploading and scheduling content, maintaining an annual content calendar, promoting events and traders, and helping to grow engagement across the channels
  • Create and manage Eventbrite listings for relevant BID-owned events
  • Curate and support delivery of the BID’s monthly newsletter (suggesting stories and supplying copy via the template) as well as composing ad-hoc digital e-shots such as invitations to BID members
  • Create digital content through WAW’s Canva account (e.g. infographics, and leaflets etc.)
  • Support the Data and Projects Officer on analytics reports covering relevant channels and statistics to help inform our marketing strategy

Events:

  • Serve as Event Lead for a range of events, including our monthly gardening club, Rooted, and quarterly pub walking tours. Lead all aspects of event delivery, from planning and preparation through to on-the-day coordination and post-event evaluation. Ensure each event is effectively promoted across all relevant marketing channels and provide hands-on support to ensure its smooth and successful delivery
  • Provide administrative and practical support with larger events including annual parties, Lower Marsh Lates, Emma Cons Gardens Summer series and Together at Christmas

Engagement:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all incoming queries from businesses and stakeholders by managing the BID’s info@ email account
  • WAW maintains a database of over 500 businesses through a database called Vicinity. This role will support the Data and Projects Officer in the regular monitoring of the database to ensure that all content is kept diligently organised and up-to-date
  • Minute-taking, as and when required

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Excellent communicator who can engage confidently and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including businesses, partners and members of the public
  • Creative thinker who can generate engaging content ideas
  • Highly organised and reliable, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities across marketing, events and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when managing website content, databases, event information, email communications and marketing materials
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the confidence to take ownership of tasks and see them through from idea to delivery
  • Digital confident, with an interest in social media, digital communications and content creation, and the ability to learn and use new platforms and tools quickly
  • Good writing skills, with the ability to write clear, engaging and audience-appropriate copy for websites, newsletters, social media and other communications
  • Collaborative team player who is willing to support colleagues across different areas of the organisation and contribute ideas
  • Enthusiastic about Waterloo, with a genuine interest in local businesses, communities, events and what makes a place vibrant and distinctive
  • Willing and able to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and out-of-hours events

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a marketing, communications, events or engagement role
  • Experience creating and managing social media and digital content
  • Experience supporting the delivery of events
  • Experience using platforms such as Canva, Eventbrite, WordPress and Mailchimp
  • Understanding of place marketing, local businesses, community engagement or Business Improvement Districts
