The role:

We are looking for a Marketing & Business Development Executive to join our M&BD department in London.

The Business Development Executive will provide support on day-to-day and strategic marketing and business development activity for the global FI sector such as business planning and tracking, budgeting, pitches, client targeting, digital marketing and events. This will involve gaining an understanding of the sector to assist with the achievement of the team’s business plans and to support various firm-wide initiatives.

We aim to provide you with opportunities to develop your career across the business development function, encouraging close co-operation and team-working alongside other central Marketing and Business Development (‘M&BD’) functions such as the key client programme team and the M&BD Hub, both in London and internationally.

What will you do:

  • Develop sector industry expertise and share knowledge within the M&BD team about the work of the FI sector: the individual in this role must develop a high level of knowledge about the products and services offered by our FI sector and demonstrate an avid interest in developing sector industry knowledge. There is a requirement to spend a significant amount of time reading sector specific industry news, learning about our capabilities and obtaining an overview of the legal and regulatory developments in the FI sector with a view to understanding the issues impacting clients in the sector.
  • Reporting: Preparing regular sector management reports. Assisting the FI Sector Lead and Manager in preparing updates for various senior stakeholders and others in the business on key trends and opportunities – contributing to brainstorming discussions on how we can develop the opportunities highlighted.
  • Business planning and budget management: Working with the FI sector lead and manager to report monthly on the marketing spend against budget, analysing investment against return. Ensuring correct budget sign-off procedures are followed for unplanned activities.
  • Website and intranet updates: Ensuring all website and intranet content for the FI sector and team updates are kept up-to-date, including adding FI events to the firmwide events intranet page, and establishes a process whereby this happens.
  • Clients: Developing a broad understanding of the sector’s client base and their role in the key client programme. Assist the FI sector lead and manager to manage and develop any clients they are responsible for.
  • Engagement with the M&BD hub team: primary responsibility for briefing the M&BD hub on commoditised, repeatable M&BD tasks. Acts as the conduit between the fee earners and the M&BD hub. Performs a quality assurance role for products developed by the M&BD hub and provides regular feedback to improve hub processes.
  • Supporting on internal projects to improve efficiency and impact of the sector team. For example, tracking FI panel clients, pitches led by the FI sector and reclassifications in and out of the FI sector.
  • Events: supporting the execution of key sector events, from planning to execution and follow up. Attending and engaging with clients at events such as seminars, workshops and training, where appropriate.
  • CRM: Liaising with fee earners, PAs and The InterAction Helpdesk team to ensure all key client contact information is stored, categorised and maintained on InterAction.
  • Coordination of FI Sector calls and client teams calls: taking notes and actions from calls and circulating to the relevant teams for digestion/ action.
  • Pitches: Assisting sector fee earners with sector specific tenders, including conducting a bid / no bid process, managing the logistics of the pitch process for any assigned pitches, gathering of relevant material and information, leading in the production of sector-specific capability statements and collation of sector specific CVs. Assisting in the development and production of presentation materials for pitch presentations and client meetings.
  • Profile raising: Supporting the FI Sector Lead and the PR and Communications team to raise the profile of the sector via various communication channels internally and externally, including identifying speaking, advertising and media opportunities, as well as overseeing the project management of directory and award submissions as necessary.
  • Assisting with the implementation of sector and firmwide client campaigns.
  • Undertaking market and client research, including keeping up to date with the relevant changes affecting the sector.
  • Regularly interact with and provide support to international offices where the sector is particularly active or where the office is striving to develop the sector.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Previous experience in a law firm or professional services environment is a distinct advantage.
  • Professional marketing qualification is desirable.
  • Marketing/business development experience is a distinct advantage.
  • Builds trust amongst fee earning team and wider stakeholder community.
  • Understands the need to, and has the ability to, manage expectations.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a focus on quality.
  • Understands when to act and when to ask.
