Marketing, Communications & Digital Trustee

We’re seeking a Marketing, Communications & Digital Trustee to help shape the next stage of our North West youth charity, strengthen our brand and digital presence, and help us reach more young people, families, supporters, and partners.

What difference will you make?

This role will help Change The Youth NW build a stronger, more professional, and sustainable presence as we grow across the North West.

At the moment, we have a strong mission and growing ambition, but we know our marketing, communications, and digital approach needs to develop alongside the charity. The right trustee will help the Board make better strategic decisions about how we present ourselves, communicate our impact, and engage with young people, families, supporters, funders, and partners.

Your experience will help us build a clearer brand, improve our digital presence, and make sure the work we deliver is communicated in a way that is engaging, consistent, and appropriate.

This will have a direct impact on our ability to:

  • Reach more children, young people, and families
  • Attract new supporters and volunteers
  • Build stronger relationships with funders and partners
  • Communicate our impact more effectively
  • Strengthen trust and recognition across the North West
  • Support future fundraising and partnership opportunities
  • Develop a sustainable marketing and communications function as the operational team grows

Importantly, this role will help us move from reactive communications to a more planned and strategic approach.

By helping the Board understand where to focus our efforts, what systems and channels we should invest in, and how we can communicate safely and effectively, you will help create the foundations needed for long-term growth.

Ultimately, stronger marketing, communications, and digital engagement means more people will understand who we are, what we do, and how they can get involved, helping us create more opportunities for young people across the North West.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who can bring strong marketing, communications, or digital expertise to our Board and who is excited by the opportunity to help shape a growing youth charity.

You do not need to be an expert across every area of the portfolio. We are particularly interested in people who have significant experience in one or more of:

  • Marketing and brand strategy
  • Communications and PR
  • Digital marketing and engagement
  • Social media strategy
  • Content and campaign development
  • Websites and digital platforms
  • Audience development and insights
  • Reputation and crisis communications
  • Digital transformation or innovation
  • Community or youth engagement

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who can think strategically. This is a trustee position rather than an operational marketing role, so you should be comfortable looking at the bigger picture, identifying priorities, asking constructive questions, and helping the Board make informed decisions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You might currently work in a charity, agency, business, public-sector organization, or independently. Experience within the charity or youth sector would be valuable, but it is not essential. We are interested in transferable expertise and fresh perspectives from different sectors.

We’d particularly value someone who is:

  • Creative and willing to bring new ideas
  • Able to turn ideas into realistic and achievable plans
  • Confident providing advice and constructive challenge
  • Collaborative and comfortable working with trustees, staff, and volunteers
  • Interested in helping build something that is still developing
  • Able to communicate complex ideas clearly
  • Conscious of safeguarding, privacy, and responsible communications involving children and young people
  • Passionate about improving opportunities for young people

Previous trustee or board experience is not required. We welcome applications from people considering their first trustee position and can support you in developing your understanding of charity governance and the responsibilities of trusteeship.

We also want our Board to benefit from different perspectives and experiences. We particularly welcome people who understand the communities we serve, have experience working with young people, or have personal insight into barriers that can prevent young people from accessing opportunities. However, this is not a requirement.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who believes marketing, communications, and digital can do more than simply promote an organization. We want someone who can help us use these areas to reach more young people, strengthen our reputation, build relationships, attract supporters and partners, and ultimately help CTYNW grow its impact across the North West.

If you have relevant experience and believe you could contribute but do not meet every point above, we would still encourage you to apply.

Hybrid

What will you be doing?

Change The Youth NW is entering an exciting stage of development. We are strengthening our Board of Trustees and building the foundations needed to grow our programs, partnerships, and reach across the North West.

As part of this, we are developing a more diverse, skills-based board that can provide strong strategic oversight while supporting the development of an effective operational team.

We’re looking for a Marketing, Communications & Digital Trustee who can take the lead at the board level in helping us think strategically about our brand, communications, and digital presence.

This is not a role where we expect a trustee to simply run the social media. We want you to help us look at the bigger picture how CTYNW builds a recognizable and trusted brand, communicates its impact, reaches young people and families, attracts supporters and partners, and develops the digital foundations needed as the charity grows.

You will work with the Chair and wider Board to help shape our marketing, communications, and digital direction. You’ll provide advice and constructive challenge, help identify priorities, and support the development of realistic plans that can increasingly be delivered by our operational team, volunteers, and future staff.

Areas where we would particularly value your input include:

  • Developing our marketing, communications, and digital strategy
  • Strengthening our brand and how we tell the CTYNW story
  • Improving our website, social media, and wider digital presence
  • Helping us communicate our impact to young people, families, funders, partners, and supporters
  • Advising on campaigns, PR, media opportunities, and reputation management
  • Helping us use digital channels to reach and engage new audiences
  • Ensuring communications involving children and young people are safe, appropriate, and respectful
  • Supporting the development of future marketing and communications capacity within the operational team

There is plenty of opportunity to make this portfolio your own. Rather than joining an organization where everything has already been decided, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how CTYNW develops its brand, communications, and digital approach from an early stage and help establish systems that can grow with the charity.

As the organization develops, there may also be opportunities to lead or participate in a future working group or committee covering marketing, communications, digital, and engagement.

We are also open to hearing from experienced marketing, communications, or digital professionals who are interested in supporting Change The Youth NW but may not currently want to take on the full responsibilities of a trustee role.

For the right person, there may be opportunities to contribute through a marketing, communications, and digital working group, advisory role, or skills-based volunteering arrangement.

If our mission interests you and you feel you could help strengthen our brand, communications, or digital development, we would still be very happy to hear from you.

Ultimately, we want CTYNW to become a charity that young people and families recognize and trust, that partners want to work with, and that can clearly demonstrate the difference its work makes.

You’ll play an important part in helping us get there.
